Upon further inspection I saw that something was written on it. It was an old text ingraved on the surface.

"'A bond strong enough between two can conquer anything. However secrets and lies will damage and sever the bond.'" I read out loud.

" 'can conquer anything'? Does it mean that with the Fantastic Compass two people can do anything as long as their bond is strong enough?" Alatus thought out loud.

"Probably.. can we use this to get out of here?"

"It's worth a shot."

We had returned to the normal world. We were now in the cave we had started in. I placed the Fantastic Compass down and as it had done before, it began to hover over the ground.

"How do you activate it? Elemental energy perhaps?"

"That would be the obvious answer, yes."

"Let's try it."

I resonated with my Cryo vision and held a hand out in front of the compass. Elemental energy was now flowing out of me.

It did activate the compass but it seemed unstable, like something was missing.

I didn't even have to say anything for Xiao to stabilize it with his elemental energy. It was a little tough for us to hold but we managed.

After a few moments an almost transparent platform formed under us. It carried us up.

Up towards freedom. When we couldn't see the ground anymore Alatus said:

"I'll keep the elemental energy flowing."

I let go and just like he said he kept it working. At first everything was fine but after a while spirits began to attack. They weren't strong, there were just so many it was hard to keep track of them.

Since Xiao had his hands full I had to be the one to protect us. The lost souls went for Xiao. I noticed and immediately came to defend him. I didn't have a second to spare.

There were so many.

The spirits slowly began to fall in number as we progressed upwards but a dark force was trying to drag us back down.

I looked down if someone didn't do anything soon we were going to get devoured by this monster.

It reached over us. I used some of my last strength to counter the evil energy with mine. It worked but that really took it's toll on me.

Xiao was obviously tired too.

I was breathing heavily. I looked over at Xiao his mask broke. That meant that he didn't have much energy left. He had used too much.

"You can't keep this up!"

He didn't answer me, I could feel the platform shaking under me. I looked down and saw cracks forming.

I looked back at Alatus. He looked up. Then he looked back at me. He had broken the energy flow and was now approaching me.

I was confused. He lifted my hand up and planted a soft kiss on my glove.

"Farewell. [Y/N]."

I widened my eyes. He let go of me and backed away. I reached out for him.

"WAIT-"
