Chapter 23: Mabel?

"Oh yeah!" Dipper looked back at Will. "Who was that? Was it just you or?" The hairs on Dipper's arms rose.

"H-hey Dip dop," Dipper turned.

"Mabel?"

There she was, in the torn, pink, shooting star sweater and torn purple skirt. Faded scrapes on her legs and face and blood running down her face from the top of her head. One very clear bite mark on her neck. A tear escaped.

"Oh Dipper!" Mabel quickly drifted to hug her brother. Dipper put his arms around her after he realized what happened. His whole body felt tingly. "Please don't cry."

"I'm so so so sorry Mabel! I'm sorry I couldn't grab you in time!"

"It's okay! I don't blame you!" Mabel let go of her brother. "It wasn't your fault."

"But-" Mabel interrupted.

"Buh!"

"I-"

"Buh!"

"Mabel-"

"Nope!"

"Wait,"

"Mason stop, it wasn't your fault you hear me?" Dipper sighed.

"I hear you." Mabel looked at Bill.

"I trust that you've been taking care of my brother."

"I uh," Bill gulped.

"Don't worry Mabel, Bill's been great." Bill smiled nervously while Will snickered. Mabel narrowed her eyes at the blonde before smiling.

"Okay!" She drifted to Bill's side of the bed. "Thank you for taking care of my brother." Bill smiled.

"I made a promise, and I fully intend to keep it." Will, Mabel, and Bill started talking while Dipper smiled. Then reality hit.

"Mabel? Will? How are you here? I mean, there's always a reason for ghosts."

"Good question!" Will said. "I honestly don't know." Mabel shrugged.

"I don't either." Bill had a question too.

"Why now? Why wait almost a year to come?" Has it really been a year? Dipper thought.

"After, I think two days? I was, I don't know the right word, I gained consciousness I guess? I didn't know where you were. So I just kinda stayed there to see if you would come back. After a few days I started to wander around town. Just to see I could find you. But I would always go back to the mall. Then Mabel found me."

"Then for me, after I gained consciousness, I stayed in the alleyway. After around a week, I wandered around town, then I got to the mall. Originally I just wanted to see if our Gruncles were there. And they were! But I ended up telling them to move on. They told me they loved us and would be waiting for us. Then I found Will. I was so happy to not be alone. Once we talked, the next day we went into town. It was just to make fun of some zombies, and to help other ghosts find their families. We were hanging out near the alley where I, you know, and I saw you. I flouted up and tried to get your attention but I don't think you were able to see me. Because I literally was right in front of you. Then we saw Bill. I heard everything you said. About who you found, that you and Jason were getting along, and even about how you like-" Dipper quickly interrupted Mabel.

"How I like the tacos Susan makes! Yeah, they're really good." Mabel narrowed her eyes at Dipper.

"Yeah, let's go with that. When you fell I was frozen. Thank god Bill was following you. Will and I decided to follow you guys back. After what happened, living things could see us. When you got here, we decided to wait till everyone was asleep. We figured out how to turn invisible? Alive things couldn't see us." Will took over.
