Dipper's POV
"Dipper!" Mabel yelled
"Yeah?" I asked looking up from the drawing. "Whatcha need?" She was trying to hold a smile back and failing. "Why are you all smiley?"
"You're needed in the garden." She told me. I narrowed my eyes on her.
"Are you sure that's all?" She nodded and floated closer to me.
"Yes, now go to the garden! I'll watch the kids." She told me quickly. Mabel started to pull me up.
"Okay okay!" I said, standing. She started pushing me out of the room. "I get it, Leo, can you pass me my beanie please?" Leo tossed me my beanie. "Don't cause trouble!" I told them walking out, I started to make my way downstairs and saw Evan. "Evan!" He turned and smiled. I made my way to him. "How are you holding up?" I asked, putting a hand on his shoulder. He shrugged.
"I'm fine, trying to pick up the slack around here until people are able to mourn properly."
"Don't push yourself so hard, okay? You'll be no use if you're burnt out." Evan nodded, then started to glance around.
"Where's Bill? You guys are usually always glued to the hip." I rolled my eyes at the comment.
"He went to the garden, it's actually where I'm going right now." Evan nodded but glanced around again
"And uh, where's that kid?"
"Oh Rylan? They were helping Bill in the garden, but I think they're with Pyronica." Evan started to move but I grabbed his arm. "Both of them are fine, Rylan isn't going to do anything." He shrugged me off.
"You can never be too careful Dipper." He told me. I rolled my eyes, he put a hand on my shoulder. "You never know what'll happen."
"Eight Ball! You're needed!" Someone called out.
"Duty calls," he told me as he started to walk towards the voice. "And make sure that idiot is alright."
"That's why I'm here!" I told him, smiling. I kept my path going to the garden doors and opened them. I wonder what Bill needed?
"Bill?" I called out as I walked. "You okay? Whatcha need?" I glanced around the trees, were those lights? Had those always been there? God it was cold. Where is he? I want to go inside and warm up. I was in the middle of the garden now, but something was different. There was a little fire pit with rocks and sanded logs circling around it.
"Now when did this get here?" I asked out loud.
"Hi Pine Tree." I heard behind me. I spun around and saw Bill holding a pansy flower.
"Is that a pansy flower?" I asked. "I didn't even know we grew those!" He laughed nervously.
"Um yeah and it's for you." He handed me the flower and I gladly accepted it.
"Thank you Bill." I told him putting the flower behind my ear. "How do I look?" I asked.
"Beautiful," he said looking at me, he covered his mouth quickly and apologized.
"Oh um thank you." I told him, embarrassed. We stood in silence for a moment.
"Um, do you want to sit down?" Bill asked, gesturing to the fire pit. I smiled and nodded. I sat on the nearest log and Bill sat next to me. "So what did you need?" I ask "Not that I don't mind spending time with you." I quickly added. Bill chuckled again.
"Well um, Will, Mabel, Rylan and the kids had been helping me out because I've been wanting to tell you something for awhile now." He slipped his hands into mine. "Now we've been through a lot, we both have almost died and I don't know if this will change anything." He was nervous and shivering from the cold. Bill's face was a beet red and kept glancing away from me.
"Bill, are you okay?" I asked putting my other hand on top of his. "What are you worried about? Nothing you can say is going to change anything okay?" I squeezed his hands. "You can tell me anything." Bill sucked in a breath and started to talk, or, at least tried to. He kept restarting his sentences, and muttering a few times. Bill started apologizing to me again for not having his thoughts straight. I squeezed his hands again and gestured for him to just keep going. Bill nodded and tried to start again. I glanced at the snow and then back at him. Screw it.
I grabbed a handful of snow and slowly made it into a ball.
"Hey Bill?" Bill stopped rambling and gave me his full attention. "I can tell you're nervous." I grabbed one of his hands. "How bout this? We have a snowball fight to get your mind off of things and then afterwards you tell me." Something flashed through Bill's eyes and he smiled.
"What does the winner get?" He asked. I shrugged and tossed the snowball towards him.
"Whatever they want." I said knowing that if he won, he wouldn't cross any lines. He thought for a moment, got up, and threw the snowball at my chest. I laughed and quickly ran to find cover. I hid behind a tree and made a snowball and peaked my head out. Bill was crouched a yard or two away. I threw the snow hitting his back.
"Jerk!" He yelled looking over his shoulder. I laughed and made another snowball, then I saw a bucket. I smiled and quickly filled it with snow. I slowly left the safety of the tree and went to find Bill. I held the bucket tightly while I looked.
"Boo" I yelped, the voice wasn't even loud, just really really close to my ear. I lost my footing on the snow and fell onto my back. I heard Bill's laughter as I rubbed my head. I looked up and saw Bill standing tall over me, His smile wide, with a snowball in his hand ready to throw.
"Give up Pine Tree?" I rolled my eyes and sat up.
"You win this round, Dorito." He dropped the snowball and offered me a hand. I smiled, grabbed it then pulled him down. Bill yelled and tripped on my foot. He fell on top of me and I started to laugh. Bill joined me soon after. I sat us back up and had an arm wrapped around his waist. Bill started to just look at me with his head slightly tilted.
"Are you okay?" I asked worried he got hurt when I pulled him down. "What's wrong?" Bill just smiled and moved closer to me.
"Nothing." He said softly, pressing his forehead against mine. "Nothing's wrong Pine Tree." He pulled back slightly. I glanced down for a moment before looking back at Bill's eyes. We've been close like this before, never this long though, one of us has always pulled away. I bit the side of my lip nervously, I wanted to turn away, but I had the feeling that I shouldn't.
"Mason?" He whispered. I gulped, he didn't use his nickname for me, he didn't even use Dipper, he used Mason.
"Yes?" I whispered nervously back.
"Would you kill me if I kissed you right now?" Bill whispered quickly. A breath I didn't know I was holding was let out in a small laugh.
"I honestly just might kill you if you don't." Bill smiled widely before moving to kiss me, or, at least trying to kiss me. Instead of kissing his um ahem intended target, he kissed my nose. We both backed away and Bill stared at me. I started to laugh.
"Okay okay confession canceled! This boy can't kiss!" Bill chuckled and covered his face with a hand while looking away.
"Shut up, I've never kissed anyone before." I smiled fondly at Bill and guided his face to look back at me. I pressed my forehead against his.
"I can tell Dorito."
Fun fact: I've had this part written for months. I'm so happy to finally get this part out. Now I just need to figure out how to finish this story 😅. Till then, stay safe, stay health, but most importantly, keep on keepin' odd everybody!
