I threw myself face down on the bed and fluffed out my hair. Where could he have gone?! I've heard his mother screaming his name out of her car window millions of times now. The rumors at school spread like wild fire. He went crazy! He wanted to kill himself! He'll probably be found dead by tomorrow! He's psychotic!
Ignorant swines. They know nothing of him. Only I know the truth. Who are they to him when they have no clue about anything going on his life!
But then again...he still did end up running away...without telling me.
"Hey buddy?" Tim lightly knocked on my door. "Can I come in?" I groaned with approval. Tim slowly crossed the room over to my bed. He sat himself near my pillows where my feet now lie. "Are you alright?"
"Just peachy." I moaned into the covers neatly spread out on my bed.
"Funny. That's exactly what you said when your mom brought me home to introduce me and asked if you were okay with her dating, as you put it, 'that creepy guy from work'." He joked, trying to lighten the mood. Tim could always lighten the mood.
"Oh yeah. Now you're 'that creepy guy from work that married my mom.'" I smiled back, letting him know I was joking.
"So what's bothering you?"
"My friend is just having some trouble right now."
"Ah, well the only thing you can do is be there for him. Trust me, things will all get resolved in the end. Don't you remember how far we got?"
"Yeah." I half smiled at him.
"Well, your mom and I are going to start dinner. It's lasagna night!" Tim stood up and smiled. Lasagna is the meal we had when all of our problems got resolved. It's been my favorite dinner ever since. He left the room, whistling and shut the door behind him.
After a great meal of laughing and catching up with each other from today and hanging around afterwards, I stumbled up to my room around ten forty five. I was pretty worn out from all the worrying about Jared I'd done all after noon, but had trouble sleeping. I could barely fall asleep but when I could fall asleep I wouldn't stay asleep.
I don't know what time it was, but the whole house was consumed by darkness. Mom and Tim must be asleep. The only visible light was from a street light near the road. Rolling away, I heard a loud startling screeching sound that made me flip right back around. The light in the window was tinted. I shut my eyes tight telling myself to relax. It was nothing. Everything would be okay.
"Go to sleep Eli..."
Falling out of bed this time, I kicked the blankets off of myself and crawled towards the dresser. I found my old baseball bat Tim had gotten me to try to bond (all though it didn't work since I'm not big on sports) and held it close. If anything was here, anyone was here, I would be ready.
"Go to sleep Eli!" I heard it close to me. I swung wide to see if I could hit something, but nothing. I heard a jump and maniacal laughter. It took the bat right from my hands and threw it across the room. I felt a sensation of something growing closer, and closer, and closer. I shut my eyes tightly and quivered. It'll be okay...It'll all be fine...
Click! I heard the power on my lamp switch on as something touched my face. I dared my self to open my eyes wide, only to see none other than Jared pressing his forehead to mine.
"OH MY GOSH!" I gasped as he pulled away in hysterics. "What are you doing here? Your mom is worried sick about you!"
"Oh you know," Jared stood up and sat on my bed, "I've just been 'hangin' around'. My mom is the one who caused all of this anyway!"
"How?"
"Somebody told the counselor about how I was on the roof. They brought my mom in and I had to tell mom about dad. She kept telling me how awful he was even though she doesn't even know him and I guess I kinda freaked!" He smiled and shrugged.
"Are you alright?"
"Never better!" He had a crazy look in his eyes. It was worrying and unnatural. Immediately, I knew exactly what was happening to him. He was asleep. Only one thing came to mind to wake him up. I grabbed my bat and whacked my best friend in the side of the head.
"What happened?" I slowly sat up. I had a splitting headache. I was in Eli's room. Why was I in Eli's room? I rolled over and knocked the covers off of myself. What was going on?
"Hey, are you awake?" Eli was standing near the a dresser holding a bat tightly in his hands.
"Yeah, whats going on? How did I get here?"
"What's the last thing you remember?"
"I was leaving school and ran strait for the woods. Then blackness. Now I'm here and my head hurts? Wait...wait a minute, dude! Did you hit me with that?!"
"I had to dude! You were acting crazy and I don't want you to hurt me!"
"I'm sorry! To be fair I had no clue what was going on!"
"Dude I get it! I've had the same problems! The trick is to just try to control your emotions. It takes practice. It'll all be fine. Do you know why you ran away?"
"I was in the counselor's office. They thought I was going to kill myself by jumping off the roof or something. They brought my mom in and I got mad at her. I guess I got a little too mad and then I had no control over myself."
"What are you gonna do now?"
"Oh man!" I flopped backwards on Eli's bed. "I can't go home! I can't even imagine what people said at school! I don't have a single clue about what I should do next!"
"You could stay here!"
"What? That's crazy! How would that even work?"
"You would just stay in my room. Make little to no sound. I'll bring you food and water and stuff. Oh man! It would be like E.T. or something!"
"Wow, okay then! Sure!" My head was full of doubt, but what other choice do I have? I'll probably come up with something more effective.
"Well, I still have school in the morning so unless you're not done creeping around in my room, I would like to go to sleep." Eli threw a couple of pillows on the floor next to his bed.
"Thanks for the luxuries." I smirked and laid down on the floor under the blanket.
"I'm not gonna lie. I might step on you when I wake up. Don't freak out."
"Don't worry about it." I rolled over. Eli turned off the lamp and went back to bed.
"Good night Jared."
"Good night Eli...best friend."
