At Least Mom is Happy

I kept one hand behind my back and the other holding up a pillow with two rings, walking down a red carpet leading to a flower covered heart shaped arch where my mother and Adam stood, hand in hand. I walked as calmly and carefully as I could until, about two steps away from the engaged, I tripped and fell, dropping the rings.

"Heheh, I'll help you." Adam laughed through the most fake grin I've ever seen. He bent down and picked up the two diamond rings lying in front of me. "What are you doing, you idiot?" He whispered, giving me a quick kick to the stomach, then yanking me up by the arm. It almost felt like he could have dislocated my shoulder!

"Now," The priest went on,"if anyone here objects to this marriage, speak now, or forever hold your peace." I expected a silence, but there was an interruption.

"I object." Everyone gasped as a tan, scrawny man stood up in the back row. His hair slicked back, he ran a hand over it to adjust it as he walked down the aisle.

"Dearest Amanda, don't cry for me

I've chosen my fate

Although with your choice I do not agree.

This man you see, for you and your son is full of hate.

Can't you see?

He is not your true mate."

The man continued down the aisle, stooping down on one knee in front of mom and kissing her lightly on the hand. Adam was seething with rage.

"Who do you think you are?" Adam shouted at the man. He stood up before Adam.

"My love for this woman is true

I would do anything, and never hurt her,

Unlike you."

Adam threw a punch, but the man ducked. I walked over and grabbed the man's arm, walking him away from the confused couple.

"Who are you?" I whispered. The man merely winked and grinned widely at me.

"Lets get on with this." Adam grunted.

"How can these two be wed when this man is not her true love? She is my soul mate. How can she be my mate but I not be hers?" The man next to me shouted back.

"Where did this crazy man even come from."

"Oh my, this tuxedo is getting very hot." He pulled a small white towel out from his jacket pocket and started wiping his face to reveal it was really as white as freshly fallen snow. Around his eyes were black and singed, and he had scars stretching from the corners of his mouth to his ears on both sides of his face.

Dad.

Dad!

"Jeff! What are you doing here?" Mom shrieked.

"Amanda, I've come to pronounce my love for you!" Dad broke away from me and swiftly made his way back to mom. On his way, though, he was stopped by Adam stepping in his path.

"What do you think you're doing?" Adam huffed.

"I think I'm going over to my true love, who I love more than anyone, except for our wonderful son." He gestured his white gloved hand at me.

"Not my wife you're not!"

"You mean your punching bag? I've seen what you do to her Adam. You must stop mistreating my family!"

"NO! This is my family!"

"But you don't even love them!"

Adam tried to swing another punch but was held back by a tall pale man with a bird mask on.

"Amanda," dad turned and to mom, taking her hands. "I love you. I've done my duty, finished my pact. Cancelled my deed with Lucifer. I've been spared, my soul redeemed to me, because I promise I'd give it to you. If only you would take it. If only you would take me for me. No more lies or secrets."

"Jeff...I-I don't know what to say. I- I just can't though."

"Amanda, I would do anything for you. I've changed. I've changed for you. I miss you and Jared terribly. I will do anything to protect you and keep you both safe. I love you guys."

"Jeff! This is the you I fell in love with!" Mom threw her arms around dad and started crying. "You promise you've changed?"

"No more mysterious trips in the night. No more living a secret life. No more death. I've given up that life. I was given my soul back, and I'm giving it to you. It was given to me for you. It's the only way I can truly prove how much I care for you. Amanda, I'm deeply in love with you!"

"Jeff!" Mom sobbed.

"Amanda!" Dad cried.

"No, NO!" Adam tried to charge again, not once leaving the grip of the tall man, who was obviously Slenderman, dad's best friend.

"C'mon big guy." Slenderman dragged Adam away, not once fazing from the struggle Adam tried to put up. A very disgruntled crowd fallowed them away. All the seating was empty except for Eli's family and a man sitting in the back.

"Not even the weirdest wedding I've ever been to." Whispered the priest.

"Well, Amanda? What do you say?" Dad got down on one knee and pulled out a small black box containing a diamond ring. "Will you finally marry me?"
