I was naive to think it would work. I was ignorant to think I could come up with something better. If I'd only have a little bit longer to think, but life doesn't work that way. People always think about only if the were something or only if they had something, but whats the point? You're not that. You don't have that. So what's the point in worrying about something that could have been? Obviously it didn't. It's time to start living for what you are. Time to start living for what you have.

No matter how hard it is.

If only I could listen to my own advice...

Mom found me. Two days later. I was in the closet when Eli's mom came in. I remember her complaining about how messy his room was. After picking a few things up, I thought she would leave, but no. She started putting clothes away for him, when she found me on the floor and shrieked.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?!" She backed up against the wall across the room.

"Ma'am, I'm sorry, just let me explain!" I stood up and held my hands out to show I wasn't going to hurt her. Just then, Eli barged into the room fallowed by his step dad.

"Jared!" Eli rushed over to me. "Are you okay? What happened?"

"What was he doing in your closet?!" His mother shouted again, more demanding than scared this time.

"He's been having some...issues, but I'm trying to help him!"

His step dad pinched the bridge of his nose between his eyes. "When I said be there for your friends, I didn't mean start renting out your closet for them to live in!"

"It didn't happen like that! He needed to be somewhere away from everything! So I delivered! I told him he could stay here!"

"How long has he been here?" His mom asked, sternly.

"Two, three days maybe?"

"What is wrong with you?" His mom whacked him in the side of the head. "Jared, I'm calling your mother!"

"No please!" I dropped to my knees pleadingly, "Do not call my mother! I'm begging you! Anything but that!"

"Why? Is she abusing you?!" His mother turned, shooting daggers with her stare at me now.

"No, we had an argument. That's why I ran away! I can't go home and face her!"

"I'm sorry Jared, but you have to go home! Tim, go call his mother." He did as she said. Eli's mother grabbed him by the ear and dragged him away from me. He yelped when she first pulled but it died down to little whimpers as she tugged at it.

"I can't believe you would be so stupid!" She whacked him again, knocking his glasses off.

"Mom, you don't understand!"

"Oh I think I understand very well! What you need to understand is what an awful, idiotic thing you've done!" The lecture went on for ten more minutes, the amount of time it took mom to get here.

You can bet she was mad. Right then and there, my mom started scolding me as I watched, right past her, Eli's mom had grabbed him by the ear and smacked him right across the face, leaving a giant red mark gliding from one side of his cheek to the other. I couldn't help but feel bad for him, until I remembered my own mother right in front of me. It had all gotten to be too much, I couldn't handle it all anymore.

Although my mother was clearly screeching and Eli was obviously sobbing, I couldn't hear anything at all. I started seeing white spots everywhere, and when did my head get so heavy?

The next thing I know, everything goes black and my face is hurting from dropping against something hard. I can hear again, but only the sound of my mothers forlorn sobs and screeches.
