"You do this every week?" Eli asked, struggling to climb up the bed sheet blanket after me.
"Pretty much, he should be here any minute!"
"Hey!" We both jumped at the unexpected voice that called to us. It definitly wasn't my dad, but neither of us could tell who it was right away. Thats when a tiny pebble came flaying right to my feet. Looking down, Eli and both saw the unexpected Isaac, Eric, Carry, and Jenna standing on the side walk infront of my house. "What are you weirdos doing?" Eric called up.
"How did you get blindy up there?" Isaac yelled after.
"Uhh...well-" I stammered at a loss for words. How exactly do you explain this sort of thing?
"I held onto his back. He carried me up here. He's surprisingly strong!" Eli called, not looking in their direction because he's forgotten his glasses. "He didn't want me to come but I didn't give him a choice! It's a matter that doesn't really concern you!"
"Alright." Isaac and Eric shrugged, attempting to walk away until Jenna punched him in the shoulder so they stayed even though they obviously didn't want to.
"Is he okay?!" Jenna panicked as Carry stood next to her snapping picture after picture on her phone of me and Eli.
"I'm fine!" I called down to her. The memory of the mysterious love notes came flooding back. I noticed her short black hair that she parts to fall infront of her face. Her wardrobe usually consisted of pretty dark colors, and call me a stereo type, but this emo boy has kind of always liked this punkish emo girl. I always wondered why she hung out with Isaac and Eric, but I guess thats just another one of lifes mysteries.
"He's just...going through something right now! I can handle it!" Eli called down for me.
"Are you sure?" She looked more and more concerened by the minute.
"Yeah, don't worry! As his best friend I can definatly help him!"
"Alright then, just, stay strong Jared!"
"C'mon," Isaac said quietly,"lets get outta here." We watched them all leave, Jenna constatntly looking back to see the both of us. I sat down, one knee bent and one hanging off the roof, watching them grow smaller as they walked down the street. Eli finally turned his face twords the street to face me.
"Dude, you've got it bad." He sat down next to me.
"I know bro. She'd never like me and it's not like I could tell her anyway."
"You never know bro."
"Wow," we heard a voice behind us along with slow clapping, "that was pretty impressive how you came up with that so quickly!" We turned around to see who was behind us, even though I already knew who it was.
"Dad!" I stood, helping Eli up too.
"So this is him. Jeff the killer...may I call you that?"
"Don't worry about it. I'm Jeff...you look fimiliar..." My dad stood back, servaying the boy infront of him thinking. "You do have beautiful eyes, I must say!"
"You probably know my dad-"
"Right!" My dad snapped as if it brought back his memory, "E.J.! Wow, I havn't seen him or you in a while! It's a shame, everyone thought he was using your mom to get back at me for falling for Jared's mom, but then he actally fell for her. He was going to use her, but then he met her and fell madly in love! It's such a tragic story!"
"I haven't seen him in a while either...wait me?"
"Of coarse! Your dad and I were best friends! He's brought me to see you when you were still really little. Your eyes were beautiful then and they're even ore beautiful now!"
"Uh, thanks..."
"Dad, this is getting weird." I laughed.
"Sorry. Maybe I'd know how to talk to your friend if I'd learned and your mother hadn't cut me out of your life! I see shes not here again."
"She's with Adam. They're on some big date. They've been out all day. I don't like it."
"No one here does!"
"Just remeber, if theres any problems, you tell me!" My dad smirked.
"I don't like the sound of that..." Eli said.
"I am a changed man!" My father announced proudly. "Just you wait until I tell your mother all about it!" He turned to me smiling, but then all of the sudden his smile fell. "That...that is if she will ever speak to me again..."
"I wish you could be my dad. I don't know what Adam has planned for tonight, but whatever it is I don't like it!" Just then we saw headlights blaring down our street. "Thats my mom's car! What do we do?"
"Behind the chimney!" Eli pointed behind the brick structure emerging from our roof in a panic. We quickly crawled over and hid behind it, but when I survayed the rest of the roof, my dad was already gone.
"Dad?" I whispered looking for him. I noticed a small piece of paper below where I was crouching. It was adressed to me in messy hand writing.
"Even if I don't get your mother back, I would never let someone as terrible as him have her!" Read the note. How did he leave this so fast?
Thump, we heard the car door close and my mother giggling. Stealthily, we waited for her to enter before climbing back down our blanket rope into my room. We both pulled on the blanket until it finally came down from the weather vein it had been tied around, but we weren't the ones that released it. On the other end was another note that read, "I love you so."
"I love you too dad." I whispered, softly so no one could've heard me.
