Our school always starts during the summer season when it's still warm outside, but now its getting colder. The first week of autumn is next week. The stupid legend is coming back this soon. The legend is that the first Friday every fall, someone some where goes missing or dies. Most people have tied it to my dad, sometimes as a joke and sometimes not. Actually people say its all the infamouse killers that people think are supernatural and...well...fake!
I got home from school Friday afternoon after a day of Isaac and Eric reminding everyone about the legend and how that starts next week and about how we need to "lock our doors" and "stay inside at night". They're so annoying and obnoxious about it.
I walked in and mom was sitting on the couch. Eli had come home with me today to hang out. Mom looked and saw me, then did a double take when she saw Eli behind me. She shot off the couch and up over to him to meet him.
"Hi! I'm Mrs.Jones, Jared's mom! You must be Eli! Nice to meet you!" She shook his hand.
"Hello Mrs.Jones! It's so nice to meet you too! Although I cannot see, by the sound of your sweet voice I can tell how beautiful you must be!" Eli smirked. I had already told my mother that he was blind. She started giggling and blushing.
"How sweet! What a gentleman!" She giggled. I started laughing until she turned and slapped my shoulder. "You could learn a thing or two from him!"
"Whatever mom!" I laughed."We're gonna go up to my room to hang out."
"Alright, well if you kids want anything doon't hesitate to ask."
"Don't worry mom! See ya later!" I helped lead Eli up the stairs. He played off the whole blind thing by hunching over grabbing on to the railing for dear life while I put my hand on his back and helped walk him up. When we got to the top of the stairs we stopped and laughed before continuing the rest of the way to my room. I lead him to the right of the stairs and turned to my door. When we went in, I sat in the edge of my queen sized bed while he sat on a bean bag chair I pulled out of the closet.
"Dude, nice stareo!" He pointed to an old radio on top of my bookshelf.
"Oh, thanks, but I don't usually use it."
"Why not?"
"I don't usually listen to music."
"C'mon dude! Seriously?! You need to get with it man! Everyone listens to music!"
"Not me."
"Alright, well then I have an asignment for you." He pulled two CDs from his backpack. "This one" He held one up "is Green Day's 'American Idiot' album. They're an older band from the 80's. They were a grunge band. They. are. Awsome!" He said handing me the CD.
"Alright."
He held up another CD. "This, my friend, is Echo and the Bunnymen."
"Hold on what? Echo and the bunnymen?"
"Do not discriminate! They're also pretty awesome! They're from the late 70's. They're a band from engalnd. This was 'goth music' in the 70's." He handed it to me.
"Thanks. I'll check these out later...but why do you carry CDs around with you?"
"Why not?"
"That's...okay."
"So tell me, who are the kids that I don't want to make any contact with?"
"All of them." I said. He laughed.
"Wow, okay. Oh! By the way, some girl in my study hall told me to give this to you." He pulled a note out of the pocket and handed it to me. "She said she figured we were friends and that it's not like I could see it anyway."
"Did you read it?"
"Totally."
I rolled my eyes. "Thanks man." I opened it up and read it out loud. "'It always hurts seeing you everyday and knoowing you're not mine.'"
"Sounds like someone has a secrest lover!"
"Shut up man!" I laughed. "It's probably just Isaac and Eric beiing jerks as usual!"
"You never know! It could be someone that actually likes you!"
"Yeah, but it probably isn't considering I don't even talk to anyone at school but you."
"That doens't always have to do with it. You can never speak a word to someone yet fall madly in love with them. Talking to them only depends on after you fall for them. If you don't talk to them after you fall for them then it's never even got a chance to happen. You should try to find out who this crazy kid is."
"No!" I was blushing now.
"Why not?"
"What am I supposed to do? Walk up to someone and just ask them if they're writing me love letters?"
"No, just put the clues together. Start talking and making friends with the suspects."
"It's not that easy."
"Maybe not for people like us, but we're trying to be normal right?"
"Yeah."
"So we have to act normal!"
"Whatever. I don't want to deal with that right now. My dad's already trying to teach me things so I can't actually go to sleep tonight. I don't know what he's going to teach me but he's supposed to be helping me. If someone likes me then they can just tell me. I don't want to have to deal with tracking them down like a spy or something."
"Ah, that's resonable. I wish I could meet your dad. He seams like a really cool guy."
"Well I've only actually officially met him once. Maybe someday though. He actually loved my mom so I feel kind of bad for him, but at the same time, my mom didn't really want the son of a murderer."
"True, true, I better get going soon. Wait, how do you even know when your dad will be out." He said grabbing his stuff and heading twords the door.
"Oh, I'm sure he'll leave me a sign." I smirked devilishly, fallowing him to the stairs and helping him down.
