Date night

Jared waited at home for his mom. He read the clock to see just how late it'd gotten to be. Ten o'clock. he read. She promised nine. He groaned to himself. She's lucky I didn't fall asleep, she would have come home to see me takiing after my dad!

Jared had spent the Friday night eating pizza alone, waiting for his mom to come back from her date night with her new boyfriend. She was super crazy about him, but Jared wasn't really. He didn't get the big deal, her boyfriend wasn't super sweet, or nice, or funny, or handsome even! From Jared's perspective anyway. Honestly, Jared thought that she could be doing alot better!

Jared had stayed up watching old movies all night and playing card games with himself, trying to keep from falling asleep. He didn't want to be home alone and turn into his night self. The self that goes outside at night. That spends time with his demon of a father. The self that could eventually kill someone.

Oh crap, I left my phone upstairs.  He relised, thinking maybe his mother had texted or called him with an explanation on why she's late. He quickly headed twords the stair case heading to the second floor. He quickly watched through the door, went over to his night stand, and grabbed his phone off the charger. As he turned to leave, he noticed something strange  in his window. It wasn't so much out side at the world, it was actually in his window. There was red writing. It read "Go to sleep Jared". For a split second, he was extremely freaked out, that was until he relised who would've put that there. Daddy was just trying to send him a messege. Jared glared at the window, as if it could wash the window some how even though he knew it couldn't, and then stormed out back to watching his movie marathon in the living room.

It wasn't until about half an hour later that he heard the door open and  his mother's laughter filling the house. Jared got up and ran twords the front door to see her, only, he was still there. His mother's boyfriend. His mother noticed Jared and stopped laughing. Instead she just kept smiling. Jared kept an upset face as if it were set in stone.

"Hey sweetie! I didn't expect you to be up so late..." His mother said. Then her mouth fell into a straight face as she got closer to Jared. In a whisper, she asked "Are you okay?"

"You promised you'd be home at nine. We were gonna watch movies together." Jared replied, adding no emotion to his voice.

"Oh, well how about I go get some pajamas on, wipe my make up off and we can watch some movies then!"

          "Fine."

"Alright," Jared's mother turned around to her boyfriend, "Well, I had a wonderful time! I'll see you later!" She kissed him and then dissapeared up the stairs. After she left there was awkward silence between Jared and his mother's boyfriend.

"I'd invite you, but it's only supposed to be me and my mom tonight." Jared said, breaking the awkward silence. His mother keeps saying she wants Jared to be friends with her boyfriend, but Jared never wanted to be around him. He just wanted his mom to be happy.

"Whatever kid. I'll let you have this before she's mine." He replied with a condescending smirk.

         "What do you mean?"

"I mean, I'm her boyfriend. I'm way more important to her than some punk teenager that could take care of himself! And to think, when you finally grow up andd join the real world instead of staying in your annoying childish state you're in now, she'll finally be free of you! We'll finally be free of you!"

"It-it's not like that! She's my mother! She loves me!"

"Yeah? Well that's because she's your mother. She has to love you! She does't have a choice! Me on the other hand? She chose to love me! You're just some punk emo kid whose stressing her out and causing her trouble!"

         "It's not like that!"

"And just you wait! We're going out on some fancy date to some french resturaunt and I'm gonna propose to her! Ya know what that means?"

          "No! No!"

"I'm gonna be your new daddy! Ya know, that thing you never had because your real dad was too much of a moron to be there for you!"

"You don't even know my real dad!"

"Neither do you! And hey! First thing I'm gonna do when I'm your new daddy is get rid of you!"

           "You can't do that!"

"Can. And. Will." Jared's mother'd boyfriend smirked devilishly. "Well, I should probably get going. Loser." He said and walked out. He slammed the door behind him. Jared threw himself at the door fists first and kicked it. He stood there for a second befor fleeing up to the stairs. Instead of going strait to his room, he stopped first in front of his mother's bed room door.

"Forget it mom!" He shouted. "I'm going to bed!"

Jared ran the rest of the way to his room and slammed the door behind him. He opened his window and noticed the red writing was gone, he didn't care though. This wasn't time to care about what his real daddy was up to. Jared stuck his head out the window and looked up. Then he pulled his head back into his room and snatched his sheets off the bed. He tied knots in it so it was more like a rope and tied a loop in one end. He stuck his head back out the window and threw the looped end out hoping to get it around the weather vein on hsi roof. He got it hooked around something so he tied the other end around his waist and climbed up to the roof.

It was a clear night.Jared had a little trouble balencing up there, but got to a place where he could sit down and think. He sat holding his knees up to his chest. He looked at the stars and thought to himself, reasuring himself that everything would be fine, that his mother would never marry that jerk.

He heard a sound somewhere else in ther neighborhood, like someone else was running around out there. Whatever. He thought and went back to sitting and watching the stars. He heard the sound again, and again. Each time getting louder and louder. He stood up when he heard it get closer to his roof. That's when he relized his make-shift sheet rope wasn't hooked around anything, and that there were two figures moving around on his roof.
