Part 5 - Revealing The Truth

Tessa

The next day at school, in our break, me and Emma decided to eat outside.

"So?"

"So what?" I take a sip from my Coke.

"Can we talk about your feelings?"

"For Hardin?"

"Yep."

"I don't have any feelings for him anymore."

"Are you sure? You know you can talk with me about this..."

"I don't have any subject to talk about, Emma. Hardin broke my heart and I can't forgive him."

"And what if he regrets what happened?"

"Did you talk with him?"

"No..." She looks down and I know she lies.

"Emma... Tell me what did you talk with him."

"But I didn't."

"Stop lying, please. Tell me, Emma."

"He regrets what happened and he wants you back as his friend."

"I don't think I can be friend with him, Emma. He hurt me and I can't forgive him. He did something unbelievable and I can't move on."

"You shouldn't move on over him, Tessa... He was just a kid, we were kids, Tessa. Olivia cheated on him and he was suffering. He regrets those words since the moment he told them. You should move on, Tessa. Hardin really cares about you. And he likes you."

"It's too late for this., you know? I'm in a relationship with Noah and I don't need Hardin. Noah makes me happy."

"Are you sure?"

"Yes. Noah is what I want."

"And what will happen after he will leave for New York?"

"We will see. We are almost adults and we will be able to decide what to do."

"You are very wrong, Tessa."

"Can we end this conversation, Emma?"

"No. I know you are stubborn and I want you and Hardin together. I never liked Noah. I know what Hardin did wasn't okay, but he deserve a second chance."

"You can't force me to accept him as my friend."

"Invite him to be your prom partner." She suddenly says and I'm mad at what she's saying. She can't see that I'm happy with Noah?

"Emma, stop!"

"Or else, he will do it."

"And I won't accept it. If I'm not going with Noah, then I'm going alone. Not with Hardin, nor with anyone else. See you later."

I get up and I leave. I had enough of her talks about Hardin. If I don't want to have any connection with him, then she shouldn't urge on this subject. I go to my next class which is English. Lucky me because there is only one chair left, next to Hardin. I should stop being late for my classes, so I can have better spots and away from Hardin.

"Hi."

"Can you stop, please?" I look at him.

"What are you talking about?" It's like he doesn't know what I'm talking about.

"Just stop telling Emma to tell me that you changed and stuff, so I can forgive you. It's not working. I'm not going to forgive you and I had enough of your shit."

"Tess... Please, I need a moment to talk with you, so I can explain everything. Can we talk after school?"

"I don't want to talk with you, Hardin. I have to see Noah, after. So, I don't have time for you."

"I ask just for five minutes. Nothing more. Please!" He's beginning me. Will a five minutes talk change my mind? Probably no, so I should give it a shot.

"Ok, fine. Now, done with this talk." I say and I move my attention away from him.

The teacher comes in and the class starts. And after one hour is done, our last class of English is done.

"So, this was our last class together. I want to wish you good luck with your exams and I hope you will find your way in this big world. And I hope this class was good for your future and I helped you with something, even if it was something small. I'm happy because I had the chance to be your teacher. I wish you just the good on this world."

We all thanked to the teacher and we left the class. It's Wednesday and it's the last week before graduation. On Friday we have our prom and on Monday is the graduation ceremony. I can't believe that high-school is already done... It was a beautiful period of my life, but as I said before, I'm ready to start a new chapter.

At the end of the school day, I'm ready to go to see Noah, but I find Hardin at the exit, waiting for me. I totally forgot that I have to talk with him.

"So? What do you want to talk?"

"Can we talk somewhere else, please?"

"I told you that you have only five minutes, Hardin... "I sigh.

"Let's just go to my car." We walk to his car and he opens the door for me and I get in. He gets up on the driver's seat and we stay in a deathly silence. "I don't feel like talking here, Tess... Let me drive somewhere else. Noah won't die without you. I never heard someone to die because a person wasn't there."

"Okay, drive, then." I sigh and he starts the car. A few minutes later, he makes me curious. "Where are we going?"

"Our spot."

"I thought you forgot about it..." I can't keep my smile.

"I never could forget this, Tess..."

After a few minutes of driving, we arrive at our place. He helps me to get out of his car and we walk to our place. It feels strange to walk next to him... It's been a long time since we were this close.

We discovered this place a few summers ago and since then, we called it our place. We're the only ones who knows about it... It's a beautiful lake, it's so peaceful here and it's relaxing. We were used to come here after every fight with our parents and this always calmed us. But now... now it's just a place. I don't think it's our place anymore.

"Tess?"

"Yes?"

"I'm sorry. I know what I said in the past hurt you, but I am so sorry and I really want us to continue this friendship... And maybe something more." He looks into my eyes.

"Yes, your words hurt me so much. You have no idea how hard was for me to hear all those words, Hardin."

"I was drunk, Olivia made me so angry and I didn't know when to stop drinking. But now I'm clean and I'm ready to give you everything."

"Hardin..." I slightly smile. "You don't think it's too late for this? I have someone and I'm happy with him. I have the power to forgive you now, but we can't be more than friends..."

"Noah is not good for you. He will leave in New York soon." What if he leaves to New York? No one thinks I'm good enough for a long-distance relationship?

"And what? Maybe I will go after him."

"You are talking shit, Tess. We are going to Seattle to study English!"

"This was our plan before this big fight. Maybe I changed my mind and I want to go in New York. It's not that strange to change my choice."

"You can't do this, Tess. You can't do this to me!"

"Why I shouldn't do this? After you and Olivia was a couple, you totally forget about me and our friendship."

"But I don't want to lose you, Tess! I want you. Because it was always you. I always liked you and not Olivia." Oh, shit.
