Part 33 - Not Well

Tessa

After a horrible flight to Chicago, we finally landed and we're back on the ground. I was nauseous all the flight and I even threw up four times. And with my sickness, I had to tell Kim what's happening. She was really happy for me and she didn't ask questions which I'm grateful. After we landed, we went straight to the hotel to rest until dinner when we will meet Christian's business partners.

"Call me if you need me."

"I will, thanks. Oh, Kim?"

"Yes?"

"Please, don't share the news with Christian."

"My lips are sealed, don't worry." She hugs me and we part way, going to our rooms.

I get inside and I go straight to bed. I turn on an alarm and I go to sleep.

Around 6pm, I got up and I feel better, ready for dinner. I put some light make-up on my face, I put on a simple dress and I'm ready to go. I leave my room and I meet Kim in the lobby.

"How are you?"

"I feel better, thank you."

"Good because we invited them here for dinner."

"Yes."

"If you won't feel good, you can leave."

"Thank you."

We arrive at our table and we wait for the collaborators. As soon as they walk to us, I feel weak. Hardin is walking towards us. He is one of Christian's collaborators?

Kim: "Good evening, Mr. Smith. Mr. Scott."

Hardin: "Good evening, ladies."

Tessa: "Good evening."

Mr. Smith: "You can call me Eric, ladies. Shall we take a look on the menu?"

Kim: "Great idea!"

We look on the menus and we order. I feel Hardin's look on me and I try to avoid him.

Eric: "I'm so impolite. I forgot to mention about Hardin."

Kim: "We already know him. He was in school with Tessa."

Eric: "Oh, great. I have a feeling that this collaboration will be easy."

Hardin: "Yeah..."

After dinner, we talk about business until Eric gets up.

Eric: "Excuse me, I'm going out for a smoke." He leaves.

Kim: "Excuse me, I need to use the toilet." She gets up and she leaves. Great! I'm facing my ex.

"How are you?"

"Good. You?"

"I'm good. I had no idea you will be here."

"It was a last minute invitation and I decided to come with Kim."

"Cool. So... We're going to meet more often."

"Yeah..."

"Are you okay? You look pale."

"Yeah, I am fine." Or not. I'm pregnant and it's yours.

After dinner, we say goodbye to Hardin and Eric. We go to our rooms and I go straight to bed. I'm really tired and all I want to do is to sleep.

I don't have the chance to close my eyes because my phone is ringing. Unknown number.

Phone call

"Hello?"

"Tess?"

"Hardin? What do you want?"
