Chapter 2
It was good to finally be home after a long day at school. No one had asked us about the fire, something that of course was a benefit for us.
"Can you take my bag upstairs, I'll be right there," John said and handed me his bag.
"Okay," I replied, and then went upstairs to our bedroom.
The first thing I met when I opened the door, was the blending light from the sun. The curtains were open, and allowed the sunshine to fill the room.
I threw our bags in a corner and lay down on my bed. Finally home; no school, no stupid bullies. We'd already changed schools twice because of bullying. What was their problem anyway? If John and I want to be friends, why would that bother them?
The memories of the bizarre happening at school came back to me. John somehow setting fire to a bully. What would he do with a lighter?
Or maybe it wasn't a lighter at all?
I thought of how John had explained it; that it had been like magic. It was always fun playing with the thought, but... What if?
What if it was like in the movies? There has never been any proof that magic doesn't exist, right? What if it's all real? What if magic is the explaination of what John did to the bully?
I settled up. Did I have a power? Did I really have magic? Was it all real?
It was worth a try, after all.
I put my hands together and stared at them. What would happen? What would I do if I had magic powers?
I could imagine myself as a superhero. Me and John could become world known, meet Britney Spears, and have our own tv-series.
I slowly pulled my hands away from each other, and there was a weak, blue light escaping the gap between them.
How was that even possible? There was no explanation for this. It was either magic, or a dream.
"John!" I called out. "John, come here and look!"
I pulled them more away from each other, causing the gap to grow, and the blue light got much brighter. I could see that it formed itself as a ball, like a ball of blue light.
I stared at it for a minute. I made this light, out of my bare hands. There was no trick, I actually had a big ball of blue light in my hands. It was amazing! I HAD MAGIC POWERS! How cool is that?!
All of a sudden John came in. He stared confused at the ball of light I was holding.
"What the hell!" he almost shouted in shock. "How do you do that?"
"I actually don't know, John," I replied, still keeping my eyes on the light. "Try for yourself!"
I was wondering how the hell I could get rid of this light. What would happen if I just dropped it? I could imagine it fell through the floor and exploded downstairs... Or maybe it exploded up here as it hit the floor?
I tried to close my hands again, and it seemed to work. The light got weaker, and the ball smaller, until it was all gone.
John raised his eyebrows at me. He seemed to be pretty much amazed of what I just did.
He lifted his hand and clenched his fist while staring at it. He didn't take his eyes off it, and that made him look even more focused.
When John shot his fist open, he was holding a real flame. Not just a little one, it almost looked like his hand were on fire! It was HUGE!
"Ohmygod, what the hell!" he shouted. "How can I do that?"
I shrugged as I smiled at him. John started jumping around as he clenched his fist again and made the flame disappear.
"We're like Harry Potter," He whispered in excitement.
"I know! It's so cool okay! We're like super humans!"
"Ohmygod, Edward! What if mum and dad are sending us to Hogwarts!"
"That would be AMAZING!"
I couldn't help that little thought I had in the back of my head. Maybe this was all just a coincedence, and mum and dad didn't have a clue about these powers?
"...But what if they don't know anything about it?" I added.
John's excitement suddenly vanished, as if he just realised something important.
"You're right," he said. "Maybe they won't believe us!". He settled down on his bed and looked at his hands. "So we're just gonna keep it a secret?"
If mum and dad knew nothing about these powers, they'd think we're going crazy.
I kept asking myself the same questions, though. Why did we have these powers? Were we the only ones who had them? And why didn't we have the same power?
Even though we had these weird powers, we couldn't go around and tell everyone about them. They'd call us freaks, or at least not human.
"Yeah," I nodded. "Until we know more about it.."
