Chapter 9
"You have a twin?" she asked carefully.
"Yeah, we're identical! His name is John, and he burnt himself really bad."
"Okay, but...Where is he?"
"I'm not sure, I didn't see him this morning, but he might be back by now!"
I pulled her with me, not caring about the class we were in. Leah didn't complain about it either.
We went up the stairs and through a corridor until we got to room 4, which was our room. I opened the door to see a body lying in one of the beds.
"John!" I burst out. "You're back!"
He rolled over on his side and looked at us.
"Who's that?" he asked.
"It's Leah, the girl I've dreamt about. She's gonna heal you!" His eyes widened, and he settled up.
"You told her? But you promised-"
"I know, and I'm sorry okay, but you said it hurted like crazy!" John looked at Leah unsure.
"Okay then," he sighed and leaned back in the bed. He pulled up his sleeves. "Go ahead."
Leah settled down in my bed, which was right next to John's. She looked down at my twin brother, then up at me.
"I thought you said you were identical?" she said. I raised an eyebrow as I looked at her.
"We are," I added.
"But your eyes are different..."
Me and John looked at each other at the same time. His eyes did look different. They were way browner than mine. I did get a little suspicious over John changing like that. But he would tell me if something was wrong, wouldn't he?
"It's probably just the light," John smiled.
Leah grabbed John's arm and looked at it. I could actually see the pain through his face expressions. I felt like a terrible person. It was all my fault after all.
She bended over him as she held her hands over all the marks, and John looked at her unsure. Leah then turned to me. It was just like the vision.
"Are you sure about this?" she asked me.
"It's worth a try," I nodded with a smile.
Leah looked at her hands, and a light escaped them. After some seconds, the marks slowly started to shrink. John settled up when the marks had vanished.
"It worked!" he smiled. "It doesn't hurt anymore!"
Leah didn't look too happy, though. She bit her lip and looked down.
"Leah, what is it?" I said.
"Don't worry, it's nothing," she shook her head, then smiled at me.
It was obviously something, but honestly, I had enough to think about - like what was happening to John. I hadn't even realised that our eyes now were different.
All of a sudden, my head felt like exploding. It was like a massive headache trying to break me down.
I sank down on my knees as I held tight around my head. I shut my eyes tight.
I was inside Wizwards, but everything was on fire. Thick, black smoke made me struggle to breathe. I barely saw anything, but there was one thing I just could not miss; two people stood in front of the flames. They held their hands forward, with massive fireballs being shot from them. I just sat there, watching Wizwards being burnt down by two people I cared about. It was John and Lis.
Yeah, you read correct. John and Lis were burning down the school, and I cared about Lis. When I almost kissed her, I couldn't really say that I didn't care. Sometimes I even wished that I did kiss her. I didn't know her properly, but... I don't know...
"Oh my god Edward, what happened?!" Leah said as she stared down at me. I was back to reality.
I thought about what I'd just seen. Would John really do that? Would John burn down Wizwards?
I was in shock. I knew he was changing, but why burn down the school?
I started to feel like I couldn't trust him anymore - after almost 18 years together. It seemed like I had to solve this by myself.
"Don't worry, I'm okay," I said.
I shot a glance at John. He sat in the bed, emotionless, obviously not caring about what just happened. Meanwhile John couldn't care less, Leah obviously did. Fear was in her eyes, but she still tried to calm me down.
"Are you sure you're okay?" she asked again.
"Yeah, don't worry." I got up from the floor. Leah also shot a glance at John, then looked back at me.
"Can I talk to you for a minute?" she asked me, and I nodded.
We left the room, leaving John all alone in there. As I shut the door behind me, Leah started talking.
"I am a twin too," she admitted. "But my twin sister changed." She didn't look too happy as she said so. Actually, she looked depressed.
"Changed? How?"
"It's a long story..."
"I've got time," I said with a weak smile before I prepared for a long, sad story.
"Well," she started, and took a deep breath. "It started a few months ago, when we got our powers. She could make fireballs, and I could make energy balls, and it didn't take long before she started burning things. Pictures, books, posters.. Yeah, she even burnt a few of our clothes! Well, also her personality started changing. She got rude and mean, and after a while she actually acted as if she hated me." A tear started rolling down her cheek. I couldn't help myself, and wiped it away with my thumb. I smiled comforting at her as she looked up at me. "One day, I found her crying in our bedroom. She sat in a corner, staring up at me with a pair of bloody red eyes I'd never seen before. Her hair was darker than usual. Actually, it was all black. She used to be a brunette. Then she whispered to me, asking what was happening to her. It was just as if someone else controlled her... Only some days later, our parents told me to get in the car. When I asked where we were going, they said Brazil. Me and my mum left all alone, not even telling my twin sister where we were going. When we got to Brazil, mum sent me through the portal. I then arrived at Wizwards, not having a clue what was going on back home."
I pulled her into a hug. She sniffled.
"Her name was Lis," she added, and it was then I realised.
Oh my god...
