Chapter 17

"Edward!" She yelled, covering her mouth the next second. I saw the shock through her green-gray eyes. "Oh my god, how did you do that?" she had lowered her voice by now, and grabbed my hand to help me up.

This had to be a joke - she looked normal.

"Do what?" I asked in a cough. I pulled out a sleeve and put it to my mouth for easier breathing.

"I... I actually think you cured me!" Wait... WHAT?!

"What do you mean I cured you?"

"You fricken CURED me, I-I'm normal and free and-" she paused and hugged me. "C'mon let's get out of here before the whole place falls apart." Before I even realised, she was holding my hand, trying to pull me with her, but I didn't walk. She then looked at me. "What is it?" she asked.

"You're a shape shifter, how do I know if I can trust you?" The words just fell out of my mouth. It was so easy to say them now that I knew I had nothing to lose.

"I guess you just have to..." She was looking at me with big, innocent eyes as she said that. I sighed. Since I didn't have much of a choice, I went with her.

We ran just around the corner when we bumped into something.. Or actually, someone.

For half a second I was fearing the worst, but then I came to realise that these people were good guys. The three boys were staring at us with wide eyes. They obviously thought the worst, too.

"Don't worry, we're good," I informed them, just in case they didn't know.

"We can't reach room 17," one of them yelled quietly in a cough.

"We can't even enter the stairs, there's fire everywhere," another one added.

"Then what are we waiting for, c'mon," Lis said and pulled me with her, before I even got the time to think. The three boys followed. It was easy to understand what she was thinking, though; we had to find another way before our surroundings collapsed.

My eyes landed on a window at the end of the corridor. It wasn't surrounded by fire, and the others sure thought the same as me; this could be our only escape. Lis bursed into action and opened the window. As I gazed out I came to the conclution that it was about 20 feet down. If you didn't jump properly, you would get hurt.

"Who's first?" Lis asked funnily. It didn't take me long to make a dicision.

"I'll go first so I can catch you if you fall." See, I can be flirty. I was just trying to brighten up the mood, though, since I've never been a big fan of serious situations.

"Oh stop it you," Lis said as I climbed up on the window frame.

"I don't mean to interrupt anything but THIS ISN'T THE TIME FOR FLIRTING," one of the boys pointed out. I let out a little laugh before staring at the ground so far away from me.

Well, here goes nothing.

The first thing that came to my mind as I jumped off the window frame was gravity. Stupid gravity. I tried to hold my breath while hoping for the best, but I couldn't help letting out a little squeek. Yeah I know, sometimes I'm a little girly, but who's gonna judge me? I'm Edward Grimes and that's that.

My feet hit the ground, followed by my hands, knees and upper body. It wasn't a perfect jump, but at least it didn't hurt.

I quickly got back up on my feet and brushed sand off my clothes.

Yes, I just jumped 20 feet from a window and landed on nothing but sand.

One of the boys had just jumped as I looked back up. He landed on his feet and sort of just rolled over on his back as part of it. It didn't take long before the other boys were down too.

"Your turn, Li-" I was cut off when an owl flew out of the window and landed on the ground. Wha- Oh of course.. "An owl?" I said as it turned into its original shape, which was Lis.

"Well yeah, it was the first thing I could think of," she smiled. "Why take the jump if you can just turn into something with wings?" Suddenly I felt a hand on my shoulder.

"Thanks for the help, man," One of the boys said in a wide french accent; one with light brown hair and green eyes. "I'm Alexander, and that's Simon and Phil." Simon was dark blond and Phil had black hair, both with blue eyes. out of the three, Simon was the palest, and Alexander was the tannest.

I was going to answer, but something interrupted me...

"There's a window, hurry up!" I heard a female voice shout. I turned to the window, and few seconds later, a girl jumped out with a loud squeek. Another one had just climbed onto the window frame and was about to jump, and two was waiting for their turn. I had just made eye contact with one of them as I heard the last one freak out.

"OH MY GOD THEY'VE SEEN US, GO GO GO," she shouted in panic as the girl I'd had eye contact with, which was Leah, was standing in the window frame. The last girl was not patient at all now that the dark wizards had seen them. In full panic, she forced Leah out the window, causing her to fall without any signs of control.

I rushed forward as soon as I saw what was going on. I didn't think I'd reach her in time, but I did. I catched her, but wasn't too prepared so I ended up on the groud with Leah lying over me.

"Nice catch," she said sarcastically. She lifted her head a little and her face expression changed. "Oh my god what is she doing here?" she said, and no more words were said before..

"TWINNY," Lis shouted and tackled Leah in a hug. "We'll explain later but now get off my boyfriend and let's move before those guys kill us, shall we?"

I felt my cheeks blushing as I realised what she called me.

Her boyfriend.

Oh right, we had to move.

I got up on my feet before running off with Lis, Leah, the three boys and Leah's roommates. Hey, wait a minute..

"I thought you had four roommates," I said to Leah, since I'd only seen three of them.

"Yeah, Rita ditched us - she's one selfish teleporter," she informed me. I looked back to see people gazing out the window. I was sure they were dark wizards, and it didn't look like they were done with us.

Once again, I wasn't wrong.

Two of them used the same trick as Lis did, except they turned into eagles instead of owls, one teleported, and four jumped.

All nine of us ran into the woods, not having a clue where we were heading. All I could think of was to survive this escape.

I pushed away every branch coming in my way, and did my best to avoid tripping. No matter what I did, I was running too fast to stop now, and I just had to accept what happened next.

Two guys came to sight, and the next moment we crashed to the ground, causing the others to trip over us and end up on the ground as well. Only three people kept running - Simon and two of Leah's roommates.

"Edward," the two boys yelled quietly, and that was when I realised who it was; Ross and Josh.

"Hide," I responded and moved out of the way. We settled under a huge spruce, and watched one after one run past us. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Then everything turned to silence.

Was that all of them?

"Alright," Leah said and took a deep breath. "Now explain what happened to Lis."
