Chapter 19

John had just made eye contact with me, and I knew exactly what was coming next.

I created a shield, and the next second it broke into a thousand pieces because of John and his magic powers. He barely even had to try. I didn't wanna hurt John nor anyone of his co-wizards. The only thing I could do was avoid getting hurt and keep John busy.

Shield after shield was created and broken. People got shot. Surroundings were sat on fire. Everything happened so fast. I couldn't think properly. I couldn't make shields forever. Making shields was what John expected me to do.

I somehow convinced myself that attacking him was good. He probably wouldn't get hurt anyway.

And that's when I discovered a new magic gesture.

Without thinking, I threw my hands forward, fingers pointing towards John. Lightning struck through the air, and hit my twin hard. It left him with a small amount of pain, which he brushed off easily.

"Attacking me, huh?" He said with a crooked smile. "Bad idea." He then threw a massive fireball towards me, breaking another one of my shields and making me fall to the ground. My hands hurt from all this action. I had to make sure John was distracted.

Unfortunately, I got distracted myself. I only had to look once to see people lying on the ground. Our people. Leah got tackled the second I looked, and it was too late the next. There was a sudden heat before I felt my body scraping along the ground. I was shot. Hard.

I let out a breath I thought would be my last. For a few seconds, I just wanted to give up. This could be the end, and then it would all be over. My mind had already given up. I wasn't afraid of death like earlier. The only goal was to break the curse. The dark wizards would be free, and I didn't have to survive.

But did I let go? Did I give up right there and then? Hell no.

I tried opening my eyes, but everything was blurry. My head hurt like never before and there was a loud beeping sound surrounding my ears. It felt like time had stopped. I could feel fresh wounds all over, and that wasn't all... As I tried to move, I had this weird feeling on my upper body. It felt almost open, and not because I was wearing an open baseball jacket, this was something else. I blinked away my blurry vision and forced myself to look.

Oh. My. God.

Blood was running from my body and onto the cold ground. I gasped for breath and the pain was undescribable.

I laid my head back again and thought to myself, I was going to die. This was too much. Everything was spinning around. Maybe I should just give up and get over with it..

I closed my eyes, thinking of the peace I soon would get. My time had come, and I was preparing for what was about to happen. I let go of my breath, not bothering to inhale anymore. This was it.

I felt the pain vanishing, slowly. I couldn't tell if it was death or something else. The only thing I knew, was that I was still here, lying on the ground. My body forced my eyes to open. Phil. He was hurt too, holding over his open wounds with one hand. His free hand was over my chest, healing my wounds.

Hold on, why didn't John attack me anymore?

I lifted my head and saw him trying to shake Leah off his back. She held both legs and arms tight around him, making it difficult for him to get her off. He tripped in the process, forcing the two of them to continue wrestling on the ground. It looked really intense - almost brutal.

A woman got up on her feet, aiming her hands towards Phil and I. The next thing I knew was lightning strucking her. I did that.

She didn't get too hurt, though - she was back up at her feet short time after, shooting fire while walking closer towards us. Phil and I held our shields steady, protecting ourselves from the intense heat.

I was just about to drop the hot shield, but then everything stopped. I waited a few seconds before looking up at the woman who had been throwing flames towards us.

The woman had short, red hair and grey eyes, and her face expression was confused. This could only mean one thing...

I quickly turned my head, and saw Leah sitting on top of John, holding his hands against the ground with their lips touching. John's black locks were turning blond again, and that's when I knew we had successed.

Now you might think it was weird seeing my own twin brother kissing someone, but no, I was just happy.

Leah and John got up from the ground, hugging each other. I spotted a tear rolling down John's cheek, and I could tell it was tears of joy.

He then looked at me, walking over immediately.

"Oh my god, Edward," he said, helping me up from the ground and hugging me. "I can't believe it, like it was soo crazy okay but I didn't mean any of it!"

"I know okay, it's alright," I said with a wide smile. He then turned his head a little and noticed Phil being healed.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry like seriously guys." He soon walked over to apologize to the others, and that's when Lis came over, smiling wide.

"Looks like we broke the curse," she said and grabbed my hands carefully. I looked over at my brother, thinking of the success we had achived.

"Yeah," I said, leaning in for a kiss. This was the second time I'd kissed her, but it still felt like the first. "We're heroes."

I was sitting on a picnic table in a park with John, Lis and Leah. A toddler boy was sitting on John's lap, slipping on ice cream. In the corner of my eye, I saw a little, brunette girl, aged about three or four, walked up to us, holding onto the zipper on her jacket.

"Help mummy," she said, looking up at Lis with big eyes.

As Lis zipped the little girl's jacket, I looked over at the playground, where three other children were playing and laughing. One of them, a boy, noticed, and waved at me. His face lit up in happiness.

The next moment I was lying in my bed. It was just a dream. Lis was using my chest as pillow, looking up at me.

"Did you dream anything interesting?" she asked me. I smiled, looking into Lis' eyes. The little girl had her eyes. The memory came flashing back to me and filled me with happiness. Looks like we got our happy ending after all.

"I think I'll let this one be a surprise."
