I took another step down the stairs and creaked loudly. My heart spiked but when I checked behind me, all I saw was darkness. I sighed. "I feel stupid. This is stupid."

No one's making you do this, Miss Mya reminded me. In fact, I prefer my first idea.

Miss Mya, I'm not controlling everyone in the mansion. You know this.

But it would be the easiest route, wouldn't it? A sure fire way to get the truth out.

It feels wrong. Besides, it would make the agreement we had in our first meeting pointless.

Hmm? What agreement? I don't remember such a thing.

I knew she was feigning ignorance, but it's not like I had the power to call her out.

I agreed to wield Essentia so long as you expel the miasma from everyone, I explained.

An image of Miss Mya clapping her hands together appeared in my head. Oh that deal. Times change Arthur. Relationships change. I'm sure your feelings towards me aren't the same as back then.

You're right. I trust you less than before.

That hurts, she cried.

Her emotions flooded into me and I felt happy to the core.

So even your emotions lie...

Hmph. Stupid blade stealing away my emotions, she complained.

Sadly I'd have to agree.

I still don't know why occasionally Miss Mya's emotions are injected into me. I was told that it was caused by us getting close to each other, but considering that was from another demon like Miss Mya, I should take his words with a grain of salt.

I got to the last step and started towards the maid hall.

So this is your plan? She asked.

You did tell me to get information on the family. And the most likely place that's stored at is the secret room below the basement. More private document are kept there then my father's room.

Oh? Miss Mya sounded deflated. I thought you were going to have a late night visit with Sophia.

Eh? What would we even do this late? Talk maybe? But what would we even talk about?

True. You both are very simple people. And at the same time, you're not.

...What do you mean by that?

Don't ponder on it too long, I heard the glee in her voice.

It's probably not worth it, I came to the conclusion.

As expected, the maids were all in their rooms, most likely fast asleep. The eeriness solidified itself as the thick shadows made the fact that all the were doors closed all the creepier. Well, all but one.

On the far right in the middle was a door just barely cracked open. It was so unnoticeable I almost missed it but I definitely saw the door sticking out a little.

I should just ignore it. Focus on the mission. I don't have any interest in peeping on a random maid anyway.

Arthur, Miss Mya called me.

I groaned. Miss Mya, you're kidding right?

It could be interesting, she protested.

And what if you're wrong? Or what if I get caught?

Lie your way out of it obviously.

Easy for you to say. I'm not a millennium old demon who has the wisdom of the goddesses.
