After lunch Emerson was sitting with Glenn and Dale as they worked more on the RV.

What are they even trying to accomplish?

"Hey Emmy?" Glenn quickly catches her attention.

"What" She soon gave up on correcting the nickname, having taken a small liking to it.

This time Dale spoke up. "A couple of us are heading to the city, anything you might want?" He questions with a smile.

Maybe.

If she tagged along.

She could escape!

"Can I come too?" Her thoughts were instantly shut down as they explained it was 'too dangerous' for a child.

"Now, is there anything you want?" He repeated, Glenn listening closely as he would be going on the run.

She gave a small shrug looking down at her clothes. "Maybe a new jacket? Mines got blood and dirt all over it" She mumbled, raising her finger she pointed at her current attire.

"We can get that" Glenn nods as he decides.

"Thanks" She mumbles, although much clearer than she would the day before.

She turns around to look over the lake, the sun causing it to glimmer every so often. A few birds would chatter as they fly over head and into the distance.

Emerson has only been at camp for two days now, the bruising on her nose is slowly disappearing, however she still looks sickly skinny.

Only 5 more days, then she can leave.

No one too boss her around.

No one to disrupt her.

Feeling a set of eyes burning into her back, Emerson turns around. She looks everywhere until her gaze lands upon..

Daryl.

What is his problem? seriously?

His brows are furrowed as he looks like he's trying to figure something out. Something about her.

The two sit in a, what seems to be, staring contest. Before she's finally had enough and walks over. He watches from his small camp as she heads his way with a glare on her face.

"What ya want?" He grumbles out, bending down to pick up his knife.

"What do i want? what do YOU want?" She crosses her arms childishly as she questions.

He just grunts in response before turning away to skin more squirrels.

"I'm sorry, i don't speak feral, can you translate that?" She retorts.

"Hey! watch it ya little shit" He points his knife in her direction, blood dripping off the tip.

"Why do you keep staring at me" She huffs out, regaining her composure as she leaned back to avoid his knife.

"Tryna figure ya out" He counters, shaking his head.

"Figure out what?" Her face must show confusion at his words because he snorts before looking down again.

Shane and Lori stand at one of the cars watching the interaction between Daryl and Emerson.

"Do you trust him?" Lori speaks up, catching Shane off guard.

"What?" He asks, looking over to her.

"Do you trust Daryl? With her?" She clears up.

"No, wouldn't trust him with any kid" He raises his eyebrows at her question before answering.

"It's like she trusts him, see look, her postures not tense. She isn't like that with any of us, not even Glenn" Lori's fingers point in Emerson's direction as she says this.

"Weird" Shane mutters his reply.

The sky gradually became darker as everyone was huddled around the fire.  Earlier, Daryl revealed that he wanted to know why Emerson wants to leave, she soon walked away back over to the RV until dinner, leaving him and his prying question.

Glenn was seated next to her again, only this time he was rambling non-stop about the trip to the city.

"I wonder if theres any survivors"
"What if a herd comes through"
"What if we run out of-"

"Glenn!" Emerson snaps, catching the attention of a few others, causing heat to rise to her cheeks.

"Sorry I know, just worried is all" He mumbles, poking at his food.

"I know but complaining to an 11 year old isn't going to help you" She states with a shrug.

"Good point" He nods his head.

"Tomorrows going to be fine, your gonna be back safely and i'm gonna have a new jacket" She smiles at the thought.

Glenn stared at her.

"You smiled, you actually smiled" He says in victory with a big grin.

"Yeah yeah whatever" She rolls her eyes, a blank expression now on her face.

They both fall into silence as they finish their food.

The sun has now fully set, people disappear into their tents, this time Dale keeps watch above the RV. Emerson lays down on the couch and drifts to sleep with the sound of birds twittering away into the chilly night.
