14: "Timeless"

"Bukas na ang alis namin," sabi ko kay Aegeus na abala sa pag-aayos ng lamesa para sa dinner namin. Nakita kong natigilan siya kaya naman napabuntong-hininga ako ag sumandal sa counter. "Aegeus... this was bound to happen."

Tumango siya at huminga ng malalim. "Alam ko naman 'yun, Chan. I just... I'm still preparing myself for it, you know?" aniya at hinarap ako. He forced a smile pero kita ko sa mata niya na hindi siya masaya. "You're leaving again and who knows when I'll be seeing you. Natatakot ako. I don't want to lose you forever."

"Walang forever," sabi ko at nilapitan siya. I cupped his face and he gulped. Ngumiti ako. "Aegeus, don't be afraid. Hindi ako mawawala sa'yo. The past five years proved that my heart is loyal to yours. Days, months, years, decades won't affect us because our love is timeless. Magtiwala ka lang sa tadhana at pagtatagpuin niya ulit tayo. Better yet, fix your life and then we'll mend our broken hearts together. I met Carol already at alam kong mahal ka niya kaya niya nagawa 'yun sa akin," sabi ko. I already told him about my meeting with Carol the other day at nagalit siya pero in-explain ko na naiintindihan ko and in a way, she had the right to do so because she is legally his fiancé. I smiled at Aegeus. "Talk to her, okay? Ipa-intindi mo ng maigi. She will get hurt but please don't break her. Treat her the way you would treat me. Ayokong masaktan siya dahil wala siyang ginawa maliban sa mahalin ka at maghintay sa'yo."

He gripped both my hands. "Paano kung magalit siya na iiwan ko siya? There is no easy way to explain this to her, Chanelle."

Tumawa ako ng mahina. "Hindi ba't sinabi kong problema mo na 'yan? I'm not helping you because this is your own complication. Pinili mo 'to. You started it and now you need to be the one to finish it. Be responsible for your actions, Aegeus. Bago ka mag-desisyon, isipin mo muna ang mga p'wedeng mangyari. Every decision, big or small, can change your life. So please, from now on, be wise."

"Pakiramdam ko pinapagalitan ako ng nanay ko," biro niya kaya naman natatawang binitawan ko na siya at umupo sa silya. Agad naman niya akong tinabihan. "Will you wait for me, Chanelle?" tanong niya kaya naman napatingin ako sakanya. "Hindi ko alam kung gaano katagal kong maaayos itong gulong ginawa ko at alam kong bago ko maipresenta ang sarili ko sa'yo ay kailangan ko munang pakawalan ang lahat ng bagaheng dala ko. I'm gonna hurt someone along the way and I want to offer myself to you. 'Yung ako lang at walang sabit na kahit ano. I want to give my all to you, Beauty, and I don't know how long it will take to straighten my life. Kaya mo ba akong hintayin?"

Nakangiti hinawakan ko ang kamay niya. "Aegeus... I saw you smiling at and with another woman for the past five years. I've seen how you faked a smile and how you pretended to be in love at aaminin kong nasaktan ako. But, even with all those things, umasa padin ako na magiging tayo sa huli. I waited for you without your knowledge and without your promise or assurance na babalik ka sa akin. That's how much I love you and I won't stop waiting for the right time for the two of us."

He kissed my palm. "I'm sorry for making you wait for that long tapos ngayon hinihingi ko pa na maghintay ka," aniya at natawa naman ako. Ngumiti siya at tumitig sa mata ko. "Pero this time, Chanelle, you won't wait for nothing because I will be with you at the end of all of this. Hindi na ako papayag na mawala ka pa sa akin. Life gave me another chance to be with you and I won't be wasting it by being a cowardly fool. Ipaglalaban na kita. Ipaglalaban ko na ang nararamdaman ko para sa'yo at kahit ano man ang mangyari sa kinabukasan, ikaw padin ang pipiliin ko. No amount of money and fame can measure up to the most precious treasure and that is you."
