Storm

The sky was dark when I woke up.

In the distance, there was a roll of thunder. The forest I was in grew silent, the crickets stopped, and so did the owls and other nighttime creatures. This just meant bad news for me. I was sleeping outside in a tree like I did most nights and the rain always made it worst. Jumping down from my tree, I started to head in the direction of the town figuring that maybe I could find some shelter in an abandoned building or something before the storm will hit.

My name is Luna the Fox, and this is how I have been living  for the past year since I ran away from my life. On the edge, living each moment as it came. Fighting to live like a did not too long ago.

Nearly a year ago, I ran away to find myself. And to find my aunt. I've been able to become stronger and learn things in this year that I never thought I could learn. My only real worry is that I still have no idea where to look for my aunt, not one clue. She could be anywhere!

But, that couldn't be the biggest problem on my mind at the moment as the rain started to fall. At least by now I was on the outskirts of the city.

I was here earlier today, just passing through. I was honestly hoping not to have to come back.

It was a pretty depressing looking. At least this part of the town that I had seen. Colorful graffiti covered most of the falling apart walls . Only a few streetlights worked, bathing the place in a pale yellow light. No body was out on the streets.

There is probably plenty of buildings around here that are abandoned, but to find one that wasn't overruled by a gang or hobos was going to be tricky. I was going to have to find a place quick though. The rain was now falling harder and faster then before. I put the hood up from my black hoodie. It covered my silver hair, making me fit it with the shadows.

I started to check out several places. Now I was regretting coming here in the first place. Every place I checked was occupied. Or just too gross.

My last hope was an open sign for a bar. The only open sign that I have seen so far.

I can at least stay in there for a while.

I walked inside, to a dim atmosphere. There was hardly anyone there, but those who were there were drunk and in the back, talking loudly as they drank from their cups and smoked their cigarettes

Drunk people can be scary if they get pissed off. I avoided them and headed to the bar, where a female bartender was busy cleaning a cup. When she was done, she looked up at me.

The bartender was a dark red bat with short violet hair that covered most of her face. She had several piercings and tattoos covered her arms.

"Can I get you anything?" she asked.

"Is your water free?" I asked and she nods. "I'll have a water."

As she got a glass out for me, she asked, "Don't feel like having a drink? Or are you just under aged and good?"

"Underaged. I just came in to get out of that storm out there," I sigh, speaking honestly.

"Well, technically, I should kick you out now," she smiles as she puts the glass in front of me, "But it's supposed to be bad tonight."

I smiled at her, "Thank you."

"No problem kid. Just don't get in any trouble or I'll have the Bouncer kick you out."

I smiled and nodded, thankful that there was kindness in the world. Taking a sip of my water, I looked at the rest of the bar. Thankfully there wasn't many people here.

"You don't look like you come from around here," the bat comments.

"That's cause I'm not," I reply.
