It was dark, and then it was very light. A blinding sort of light that only faded but stayed. The dull grey fox stirred, opening her icy blue eyes to the white world around her. Her fur slowly began to sparkle again, her gold and blue hair cascading and shining like a majestic waterfall, pooling around her head. She slowly sat up and clutched her dark chest. There was a dim pain there, but it faded as the wound healed.
The fox was confused. She had never been there before, and never had she had a wound heal so quickly. Her mind was blank, she couldn't even remember what caused her to arrive into the blank void.
The sound of footsteps could be heard, slowly making their way to the fox. Ears twitching, she turned to the noise.
A yellow fox approached her, her wavy sky blue hair spilling over her shoulders and onto her white dress. This fox smiled a smile that radiated like the sun. Like her.
The - now silver- fox smiled at her, but it quickly disappeared. The memories came crashing back and she looked off past the yellow fox with a look of horror on her face, which melded into a look of sadness. A few tears fell down her face as the sun colored fox knelt beside her.
"Sunny. I-I..." She was cut off by the fox known as Sunny wrapping her arms around her, embracing her in a warm hug. The silver fox couldn't stop the sobs that suddenly erupted from her.
"Shhh, you did what you could," Sunny soothed. "It was your time to go, not Luna's. You saved her Stardust."
Stardust sniffled, before pulling away from her sister. "What happened?"
"Your act of pure selfishness let her see the light. The light within. She didn't stop Mephiles, but she escaped and holds the power to protect others from his tyranny."
"Really?" Stardust whipped her eyes, her face looking a little more hopeful. "But, I had so much more left to teach her. She needed someone to fill your shoes."
"And you did a wonderful job for the time that you were there," Sunny smiled at her. "Like I said, it was your time. Even if you didn't jump in front of Luna, Death was hanging around you. The stars and I helped guild you to the better end."
"What could have been worse than that," Stardust looked away. "Luna's probably traumatized now."
"She already was, but she's growing past it. The next few years will be rough on her, but I know she will move on."
Stardust turned back to Sunny. "What about us now?"
Sunny stood up, and held out a hand for Stardust. She took it, and Sunny helped her on to her feet. "I came to take you home."
Stardust smiled at her sister. They were reunited at last, and despite the circumstance in which they had to meet again, Stardust was happier than she had been in a long time. She held her sister's hand as Sunny led them off into the distance. Farther into the light.
