Matrix's POV
It was dark through my eye lids, but suddenly, a bright light flashed. My eye lids still felt too heavy to even try to open them, and my body felt like it was made of lead. I heard voices talking, but they seemed far away and distorted. They faded along with my conscience again.
When it came back, I was acutely aware of there being a flickering light even if it seemed faint.Slowly, I opened one eye, then the other. The small room I was in was very dark, the only light coming from the swinging ceiling light, which was dim and flickering. It casted dark shadows as it swung, and I was able to catch glimpse of the wall opposite of me. It's maybe white paint looked faded and was peeling back, the rest of the wall was in dark shadows.
I also became aware that there was a dark figure in the corner, I squinted my eyes, but before I could ask out loud who it was, the person stepped out of the shadows that he belonged in.
"Mephiles," I hissed. He chuckled as he stepped our into the light. He gave me a smile.
"Well if it isn't my favorite spy. Anything to report?"
"I'm not your spy-"
"I beg to differ."
He gave me the creepiest of smiles, sending a shiver down my spine. Before I could even open my mouth to reply, I had been smacked so hard the chair fell over. My eyes slammed shut as my head slammed on the concrete. Pain instantly shot through my head, letting me know there would be a knot where the pain is later on.
When I gingerly opened my eyes back up, I saw Mephiles' shoes very close to my face, and a moment later, the chair being yanked up- and not by him.
"Maybe I didn't make myself clear... Is there anything to report- spy?"
I huffed, before growling through my teeth, "I'm not your spy anymore. You can't just trick me into doing your dirty work for you! You've already killed my best friend and destroyed her daughter's life- what makes you think I will just start feeding you information again? Cause I won't. I'd rather die."
I spat at Mephiles, just barely missing him, the saliva ending up on his shoe. He pretended not to care as he glared at me.
"That can be arranged mate," I heard a new voice from behind me. I didn't even try to turn around to see it was Kicker.
"Hush," Mephiles turned his gaze behind me, "We are not going to kill anyone..." he turned back to me and smiled again "..right now."
"You might as well, because I'm not saying a God-damn thing," I return with my own glare, not faltering at staring Mephiles down.
He continued to smile. "You don't have to. I know you've grown up since the last time I used you for information, you're much too smart and strong to just 'give in' now. No, I'm going to have to make you do a few things for me. You do them right and don't tell, then maybe I'll let you live when this is all said and done. Or I may just kill you like I should of done a long time ago."
"You can't make me do anything," I hiss at him.
He just smiles wider and beckons Kicker to come forward. He does, a smirk on his own face. Mephiles steps back, and Kicker steps in front of me, and gives me a mesmerizing stare. I began to feel weak and groggily.
"I beg to differ."
Stardust's POV
The library was about to close, but I knew the librarian.
"Why Stardust, if that isn't you. Come in! My have you've grown and if may add, you've taken the glitter style pretty seriously," said a sweet old county cat. I smiled at her from below my cloak hood, glad she thought my stars were glitter.
"Hey Lorene. I need to do some research, mind if I browse a little bit?"
"Sure honey. I'll be locking the doors, but you're always allowed for late night studyin. Are ya lookin for anything in particular?"
"City records."
"Well, that section hasn't changed. But your also welcome to the computers. It may be faster."
I frowned, remembering the last time I used a computer. They weren't the fastest things in the world. "I'd rather get the books."
"Alrighty then~ just let me know before ya leave," she said as she went behind the desk, probably to sort through some things. I frowned a little as I walked into the back.
The things I were looking for, Matrix probably could of told me herself. I didn't want to hear it from her though.
I wanted to see it for myself.
And I knew I could find them here. This library kept every newspaper printed in this town. It may take me a while to find what I'm looking for, but I'll find it.
After a little bit of math to figure out dates, I finally started to search through the year that Sunny would have died. I spent too much time looking at obituaries when I could of just flipped through the front pages.
"Neighborhood fire leave two dead and dozens without home."
I scanned down under the picture of the suburb in a blaze to read the caption below.
