Chapter One || Addison
I grew up in a small town just outside of Los Angeles, with a dream of one day packing up my belongings and leaving. And the minute I graduated from high school, I did just that. It hadn't been easy, especially with my father screaming from the front door of the home I had grown up in that I wouldn't last a month in the City of Angels.
However, I was determined to prove him wrong. With the help of my best friend, who had graduated six months prior to when I graduated, I was able to say I had a home the night I arrived in Los Angeles. A week after I arrived in LA, I found myself a job at a veterinary office a couple of miles from my new home, and after a few months of saving up some cash, I later enrolled myself into the community college.
It's been a year and a half since I've left my hometown. A year and a half since I've last spoken with my father. I proved him wrong by making it thus far in LA, and I'll continue to do so by becoming someone other than another small town girl who works at the local dinner for the rest of her life.
I dreamed of leaving, and I did.
I dream of becoming a veterinarian, and I will.
For my entire life, I've worked towards my future. I've always had established routines, clear goals, precise focus, and never ending motivation. And for the longest time, I believed nothing and nobody could break that.
I was wrong, obviously.
It just so happened to be that my distraction came in the form of a five foot eight tall male with crazy curls and eyes that reminded me of milk chocolate.

I stare at the stacked up boxes that are pushed against the far wall of my bedroom and sigh. It's been a week since Lyla, my best friend and roommate, and I have moved into our newly leased home. A beautiful three bedroom, three and a half bath, with a large lawn, and a pool that had sold me on the idea of signing a one year leasing contract.
I can hear Lyla singing at the top of her lungs as she unpacks a few boxes in the spare bedroom down the hall. We plan on turning it into an office, a room dedicated to enter and block out the outside world as we focus on our studies. We have been unpacking a few boxes little by little throughout the week, trying to get the house set up and ready for tonight.
Tonight, Connor, Lyla's good friend is coming over. He was the one who told us about the house being for rent, and as a thank you, Lyla invited him over for dinner.
For a year and a half, I slept on a pull out couch in the living room of the small one bedroom one bath apartment Lyla had been renting. After months of saving, the both of us were able to combine our money together and put a deposit on the house we both had fallen in love with.
I smile as I grab one of the many boxes that are filled with my insane collection of books and begin to unpack it. I finally have my own bedroom and bathroom. I no longer have to wake up at the crack of dawn to take a quick shower simply because Lyla likes to take hour long showers. I no longer have to deal with being tripped over on the late nights Lyla gets home from work.
