All I can say is, SURPRISE!? ♡

Chapter Twenty || Lyla

After the long tensed car ride to Pismo, I was thankful the four of us split up and did our own thing. Yes, I was upset that I wasn't spending my time with Addison like we originally planned and always did, but our argument from last night was still fresh in my mind; and although majority of it was my fault for lashing out on Addison when she was only being caring, her words still hit me square in the chest.

I was too prideful to admit I was in the wrong, and Addison was too – which is why most of our arguments dwindled within days of us allowing things to blow over. Last nights' argument was different unlike the others. Sure, we have exchanged fowl words to each other but we've never taken low blows, the two of us knowing just how affective parental roles were to the other.

Neither one of us was in the right but I wasn't ready to confront her.

For now, I would let things be – Addison off with JC on the staircase to nowhere, and me up on the cliff with Kian satisfying our craving for malts while watching the sun.

Kian on the other hand was the complete opposite. Although I was attempting to be distracted by the nature around us and the chocolate concussion in my grasp, I knew he was curious based upon the glances he and JC stole between one another during our tensed car ride; along with Addy's response when he first brought up the two of us and she brushed it off as nothing.

I had hoped Kian would take Addison's word, however, as he stared at me with curious eyes I knew he hadn't noticed that I heard him when he asked Addison what was wrong.

"So are you going tell me what was up with you and Addison?"

I tear my gaze from the horizon and tilt my head sideways, brushing the few strands of lose hair ruffling in the evening breeze behind my ear. "What are you talking about?"

"Earlier," he deadpans, leaning back on his hands, "you shoved her shoulder." I scrunched my nose when the image of me forcefully shoving my way past Addy replayed in my mind. Shrugging I mimicked his actions and leaned back, grabbing my plastic cup and shaking it; the contents of my milkshake slushing around the sides.

Putting the straw up to my lips, I sip up just enough of the drink to fill both my cheeks up as if I were a chipmunk storing food for harvest. "Iono," I mumble with my mouth full, shrugging while putting the cup down. Dripples of milkshake seeps between the small part of my closed lips, and Kian chuckles shaking his head.

I cover my mouth, muffling the giggle and foam from the shake trying to peak their way through. "Here messy," he says handing me a napkin. I take the napkin from his grip and pat my lips in replacement of my opposite hand.

"Thank you," I chuckle into the napkin.

His eyes follow my face as he dangles his feet over the edge of the cliff, "so earlier."

I roll my eyes at his determination and refusal to allow it to slide over his shoulder. He sure doesn't miss a thing. "It's nothing," I mumble and bring my legs up to my chest, "bad argument."

"Over what?" he continues. I snap my head and narrow my eyes, "you sure are nosey."

He sticks his hands up in surrender and redirects his gaze away from my face and back to the sea before us. "Seems too much to be just a bad argument," he states.

"I said things, she said things," I respond with a sigh, "I don't like the fact that I feel the need to explain myself, I can't just be."

"What did you have to explain?" he probes and I suppress an eye roll. And here I just said I didn't like giving explanations.
