Chapter Eleven || Addison
It's midday and the sun is at its highest in the clear blue sky. I'm lying by the pool getting some sun, letting the rays completely wash over me as I lay out to tan. After Lyla said my legs were paler than Edward Cullen from Twilight this morning, I went back up to my room and changed into my bathing suit so I could lay out by the pool and suntan.
Despite living in sunny California my entire life, I wasn't sun kissed like movie producers and novelists made Californians out to be.
I was pale and if I didn't sit out and tan for a few hours every other month, people would more than likely think I was part of the Cullen family. Lyla however was the opposite. She could tan and it would stay year round. I knew it was because of her ethnicity. She was half Italian on her mother's side.
It's a beautiful day out and it's quiet for the most part. I can Lyla's music blasting up in her bedroom since she has her window open. She's playing Hold Me Down by Halsey as she attempts to clean her bedroom but knowing her she's more than likely sitting in the middle of her room, dust rag in one hand, and phone in the other as she scrolls through her Twitter timeline.
The only time she actually stuck with cleaning was when she was pissed off. Cleaning was her way of relieving anger that she didn't know how to deal with, but it was rare when she grew angry to that point. She was usually really good at keeping her temper, however, lately she's been snappier than usual, and I knew it had something to do with Kian.
It's been about a week and a half since the boys were over for dinner. It went pretty well. Better than I had expected really. The four of us sat and talked out on the patio while we had dinner, and after dinner Kian helped me with the dishes while JC helped Lyla clear the table and set up the bonfire we later sat around until a little after midnight. It was a fun night, even when Kian and Lyla almost tore each other's heads off.
JC and I have been texting here and there throughout the days following that night, and I believe Ly and Kian have been exchanging text messages here and there, as well, even though she still hasn't told me that they exchanged numbers. The only reason I know they've exchanged numbers is because I found a piece of paper on her nightstand with a short note and Kian's number written at the bottom, and since Lyla's been on her phone more than usual lately, I've put two and two together.
I'm lying on my stomach, head resting on my bunched up towel and turned towards the pool when Lyla calls out my name. I push myself up onto my elbows and look towards the patio doors. Karrie, Connor, and Lyla are standing on the patio. Karrie is dressed in a pair of faded blue shorts and a white off the shoulder mesh bathing suit top as Connor stands beside her, a blue ice cooler in his hands.
They smile and wave excitedly, yelling out my name along with greetings and hollers of excitement.
"What are you guys doing here?" I ask as I get up and fix my sunglasses that are perched on my nose.
Karrie leans against the patio railing, smiling from ear to ear as she holds onto the off white stray sunhat on her head so it won't fly away with the slight breeze, "Pool day!" she excitedly says as she pushes herself away from the patio railing and takes the patio deck stairs two at a time. "I had called you but Lyla answered and said you were tanning by the pool so I suggested we have a relaxing day out by the pool."
"And Lyla called me and invited me." Connor smiles, "I brought beer and wine coolers!" he says excitedly as he takes the patio deck steps one by one carefully so not to trip.
