A/N: I'm sorry if this chapter sucks. It was written over the course of two months, possibly even longer because I honestly think I've been working on this chapter since November of last year... and it's already March, lol. But ANYWAYS. I'm sorry that it took me so long to finally get this up! School and work has been kicking my butt. But whatever, enough of the excuses.
Song: Waiting Game by Banks.
I was listening to this song while I wrote the last scene and I don't know but it just motivated me to finish this damn chapter. So, I hope you enjoy. :) Feedback is very much appreciated.
P.S. Yes, I really did leave the chapter like that. :]

Chapter Nineteen || Addison
"So how have you been?" Sebastian, Lyla's older brother, asks me. I have the house phone pressed to my ear held by my shoulder as I chop away at some vegetables on the cutting board. I'm making dinner, something that I always seem to be doing as of late. Usually Lyla and I take turns but lately she's either been out or working late at the shelter.
"Good," I reply as I push carrots, celery, and lettuce into a bowl. "Busy, but I've been good."
Sebastian's a couple of years older than I am but we grew up together and created somewhat of a friendship. He's even been like an older brother to me, being there for me alongside his sister whenever I couldn't take what was going on at home anymore and just needed a place to stay for a bit.
"How have you been?" I ask him, "We haven't talked in a while."
I hear Sebastian sigh on the other end of the phone and I can already picture him running his fingers through his hair. "I've been better. Business has been a little slow."
I place the knife down and hold onto the phone, tilting my head side to side as I try to loosen the stiffness in my neck. "How slow?" Evans Mechanic and Shop, built from the ground up, was taken over by Sebastian when his and Lyla's father passed away. I knew it wasn't what he wanted to do with his life, having had to decline his acceptance at FSU in Florida, to stay behind in Lexington to take care of his baby sister and run the family business.
"You don't need to worry, Ads." I hear him say as I hold onto the side of my neck.
"Sebastian," I say with a little caution, "If you need some money, let me help out..." The business wasn't just part of Lyla and Sebastian's life. Evans Mechanic and Shop was also a part of mine. I couldn't count the times I spent my afternoons sitting in the back office of the shop with Lyla doing homework and/or just hanging out. Heck, I remember spending summer afternoons when Lyla and Seb were busy in the shop helping out Mr. Evans.
"I don't need your money Addison," he tells me, his voice stern and final. I bite my lip and nod even though I know he can't see me. "I don't even know why I brought it up in the first place."
"Because you can't talk to Lyla about this stuff," I say. "You know she'll start to worry and we both know how she gets when she starts to worry."
Sebastian chuckles but I know he's only doing so to try and lighten the mood. "Listen, I didn't call so I could spill my guts to you. I called to see how you and Ly were doing."
"We're fine," I say, holding the phone to my ear with my shoulder once again. I grab the bowl of carrots, celery, and lettuce and dump it into the frying pan that I had heating up with a little oil. "Lyla's at work," I tell him although I'm pretty sure her shift ended about two hours ago and she has yet still to get home. "She should be home soon."
