Chapter Thirteen || Addison

It's a little past eight in the morning and already the sun is blazing. I can feel the strong rays soaking into my skin, and I'm glad that I decided to wear my sports bra instead of one of my plain T-Shirts. I wore T-Shirts early in the morning when the sun was barely rising, however since today I was running later than usual, I decided to wear a sports bra. It was a hot Los Angeles summer morning.

"How about we make this interesting?" I hear JC say as I stretch. I look up and see him standing by the gate wearing some basketball shorts and a regular T-Shirt. I straighten up and tilt my head to the side.

Last night, at dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings with Lyla, Kian, and Dom, JC bet me he could beat me on my morning running route. Lyla and I had shared a look, smirking at each other before I accepted JC's bet. What he didn't know was that I ran cross country in high school.

"What'd you have in mind?" I ask as I walk down my driveway. I close the gate behind us and we begin walking down the street at an even pace.

JC smirks, "Loser jumps into the pool naked."

I furrow my eyebrows, "I'm not jumping into the pool naked!"

My curly haired neighbor laughs, and kicks his right leg out, lightly tapping my behind with the side of his shoe. I widen my eyes and stare at him shocked. Did he just kick my ass? Literally?

"Better start running then," he laughs and takes off jogging down the road. I stare at him for a couple of seconds, flabbergasted, before laughing in slight disbelief and taking off after him.

I hear JC's heavy footsteps catch up to me as I slow my run down to a walk. Sweat drips down my body. I can feel it travel down my back and the side of my face as strands of my hair stick to my cheeks.

"Oh shit," I hear JC laugh behind me. I glance over my shoulder and roll my eyes as I catch a glimpse of him walking with his head tilted back. "What the hell are you?" he asks, "A cheetah?"

We just came to the end of our five mile race. A race that I won much to his dismay.

"Do I have spots all over my body?" I ask him, slightly winded.

Straightening up, JC looks at me through narrow eyes. His curls fall in his line of vision and he shakes his head to the side. He studies my body from head to toe and I feel slightly self-conscious in my black and pink running calf high yoga pants and matching sports bra.

"None that I can see," JC replies with a smirk.

I roll my eyes and continue to walk down the street. I spot Kian sitting on the curb as I near my gate. He's sitting with his elbows on his knees as he scrolls through whatever he's doing on his phone. I slow my run into a walk and push back strands of my dirty blonde hair. I'm still breathing heavily and my lungs burn as I inhale and exhale, trying to catch my breath.

"Hey," I manage to say as I bend down and cup my knees. "What are you doing out here?"

My blonde next door neighbor looks up and smiles when he sees me. "Morning Addykins," he greets and I narrow my eyes. He has a habit that I'm not very fond of. He likes to call me 'Addykins' a nickname that only Connor ever calls me, and even then I'm not all that fond of it.

"What did I tell you about calling me that?" I question him.

Kian grins at me and then turns his attention behind me where JC stands, hands on his hips as he tries to even his breathing as well. "She win?" he asks his best friend.

"I let her win," JC states and I roll my eyes.

"Sure you did, buddy."

"I did!" JC defends himself.
