June 24, 1976

Once I had finished reading the paper, I walked away, attempting to reassure the others that I really didn't care what the paper had to say about me and my family.

But in all honesty, I have to say that I felt extreme rage at the fact that my family's deaths were being used for publicity.

They were supposed to be at peace.

And this whole things just dugout that horrific moment again. It's not just the fact that they were tarnishing my family's name, but the fact that it was released at the exact moment I was slowly trying to forgive myself.

My mother's words remains ever present in my mind even now. 'he wouldn't be dead if it wasn't for you.' That now applied to my entire family.

I hate to say it, but she was definitely right.

My connection with the world of magic brought all of this misfortune onto them. The life that I yearned for to escape the place that brought me pain was now indistinguishable to me to separate between.

To stop myself from going down this rabbit hole again, I force myself to get out of my room and take a walk.

"Enjoy your walk." Remus greets me as I pass.
I give him a curt nod before walking off to the bright world outside.

I take a seat on a bench under an apple tree after walking around the big backyard for a while, relaxing.

The peace only lasted for a few minutes when James comes running out towards me, calling me by my full name. Whatever he wanted to say isn't something I wanted to hear, so I walked away just as he neared closer.

"Elpis please." He begs. I see from his face that he's done waiting for me to come to him.

"I didn't do it to spite you." He continued. "The only thing I ever intended to do was to keep you from being hurt by those vile words the Daily Prophet published."

"I never wanted to hurt you by keeping it from you.... I just wanted to protect you."

"I didn't ask you to protect me." I finally break, turning around to face him. James stops to a halt before he runs into me.

"You don't have to ask."
"I didn't need you to do anything like that James." I firmly begin, quickly gushing him before he utters another word.

"Whatever they want to publish about my family should be my issue. Not yours."
"Then what's wrong." He inquired.

"I'm hurt because you tried to hide it... from me. I deserved to know. But you decided that it was your duty to keep such a thing from me. You aren't anything more than a friend to me James. I just wanted you to be by my side, but seeing how you would hide something like that from me makes me suspicious about what else you might be hiding."

We stand in silence for a few more seconds when I begin to walk away. I only make it a few feet away from him when he suddenly pulls me back and turns my shoulder to make me face him.

"What the f-!" I abruptly yell.

"Listen."
"Let me go!" I try to push his hands off my shoulder.

"Not until you hear me out. So just hear me out..." He pleads.

"Three minutes."
"That's all I need." He smiles, letting me go.

I nod my head to signal him to begin and boy does he talk.

It started off fairly simple.

"I know it wasn't my job to hide stuff from you or protect you, but Belle... you're bloody dense." He states. "Shush. Let me continue."
