the car ride was bumpy. ezra and dustin laughed every time she let out a squeak when steve drove over a speed bump. she held the letter in her hands, playing around with it for a bit. then she looked up at max who seemed to have no thought behind her bright blue eyes. it caused diana to worry.
steve stopped the car in front of max's house. "this better be fast, mayfield." steve told her.
"twenty seconds." the girl reassured, leaving and shutting the door behind her. with a sigh, diana sat down where max sat.
"that things got batteries in it, right?" ezra questioned, holding up the walkie talkie. dustin turned away from him with a sigh.
"i'm not even answering that question." ezra looked to lucas in confusion. "yes, it has batteries." dustin continued.
"oh, okay." diana shook her head, looking away. her eyes landed on eddie munson's home. or that's where she assumed eddie munson lived. there was caution tape all around the house and covering the door. monica's car still sat in front of the trailer.
before she knew it, max was back and everyone had been waiting outside of the car. the girl seemed shaken up, "hey, that was longer than 20 seconds." steve commented, but she ignored him.
"hey, whoa, whoa. are you all right?" lydia asked her, seeing how shaken up she was.
"i'm fine. just drive." everyone got back into the car, ezra sitting in the floor much to his disappointment.
"did something happen?"
"can we please just go?"

maddy only had a few things to pack. just her clothes from the previous two days, and some jewelry. she clipped her golden colored necklace that diana had gotten her for her 12th birthday around her neck, and slid some bracelets onto her wrist. she changed since she felt uncomfortable in her current outfit, and who knew how long they'd be driving for.
