When I opened my eyes again, I took note of three things: one; I was in an unfamiliar room, bound to a chair. Two; someone had wrapped my head with a bandage. And three; I was not alone. Someone had brought me here, tended to my wound and locked me in this room.
I pulled at the ropes that restrained my wrists and let out a cry of agony as searing pain shot through my arms. Looking behind me, I saw red burn marks on my wrists - the work of the infamously perennial flower, aconitum vulparia; also known as wolfsbane. Evidently, the ropes that held me captive were soaked in it.
Closing my eyes, I straightened my shoulders and took consistent deep breaths to calm myself down. When I had gathered myself, I took a look around the dimly lit room. The walls were painted in dark grey and were chipping in several places. The floor was made of concrete, there were no windows, and a single bulb hung on the ceiling directly above my head.
The place had a musty odor and I was feeling hot and sweaty, a result of the windowless room with no fresh air whatsoever. My head ached, my throat was parched and the fact that I was tied up with wolfsbane rope that burned my skin everytime I moved didn't help much.
Desperate for a distraction from my grim situation, I tried to piece together the incidents preceding my abduction. I was in town gathering ingredients for a spell and I had just one more thing to get; a marijuana plant. Then I got scared when I saw the things in the shop and tried to run away.
My car broke down and I tried to call Dimitri, but found that my phone died. I asked the shopkeeper to borrow his phone and he touched me inappropriately. I tried to recall what happened next, but it was a little fuzzy. Oh Goddess, what do I do now?
Right at that moment, the door opened and I looked up to see a man walk in. He was wearing a red cloak that covered him from head to foot. When he removed the hood of the cloak, my eyes widened in shock, then they narrowed in anger and disdain.
"You! How dare you bring me here, you bastard?!""Now, now, don't be like that sweetheart," he tutted. "that's no way to speak to your grandfather, now is it?"
I growled lowly and pulled against the ropes, ignoring the burning in my wrists as I glared at the despicable creature in front of me.
"You lost the right to call me your granddaughter since that night of the Romanian Obeisance Event. The night where you confessed to poisoning my father and ruining my life!""If your father wasn't so overly affectionate towards you when you were younger, then all this never would've happened," Rupert scoffed. "it's bad enough that they got your gender wrong, had you been a boy, then all this trouble could've been averted."
"What in the hell are you talking about?!" I demanded. "what difference does my gender make? What trouble could've been averted if I were a boy?""As you already know, it's heavily frowned upon for a she wolf to become Alpha and lead a pack. The responsibility should befall on a male, not some inferior woman," he said smugly.
I was insulted by his tone and words, but chose to remain silent."Had you been a boy, then you would've been the Alpha of Emerald Guardians and Adeline wouldn't have any reason to adopt Alec," he continued. "so when you were born, I wanted to get rid of you. But unfortunately those pesky maternal instincts contaminated Adeline and she wanted to keep you. But as you got older, you started to get mischievous. That was when Adeline grew fed up of you. I then decided to poison Lucias."
