"Even after all the torment that monster's put us through, even then you still felt sorry for him! Why Marguerite? Why waste pity on him when he didn't even deserve it?!" Presha screamed as she picked up a glass from the table and flung it against the wall, shattering it instantly. "He beat us, he starved us, he used, abused and tortured us! He raped you all because you took some bread and milk from the kitchen without asking!"

"I did it to keep you safe Presha! Aaron was coming to kill you. I had no choice!" Marguerite cried out. "You were my only sister, we didn't have anyone else after our family's demise, what was I supposed to do?!"

"Kill him! After he had his fun, he passed out in a drunken stupor. That was the perfect opportunity to end his miserable life. We could've been free! But no, you decided to let him live to torture us another day!" Presha yelled.

I covered my ears and hid my face in Dimitri's jacket, not wanting to hear any more of this. After listening to Presha and Marguerite talk about their human life, their family and the cruelty they were forced to endure for all those years, I couldn't bear to listen anymore, for it only reminded me of my own traumatic experiences.

"Look, we've all got our sad stories, but do you think you could save this for another day? I really must be going. My pack is probably waiting for me," Marcus spoke up.
"I agree. We too must be heading out. But before that, I'd like you to finish what you started Presha," Rupert stated.

"You won't be getting anything until you hold up your end of the bargain," Presha argued. "I've done my part, now it's your turn. Hand over Derrek. I've waited long enough to free him from that tomb. Once he's out, you'll have what you want."

"I won't let you do this Presha. The coven elders entombed Derrek for a reason. He's broken countless laws, slaughtered hundreds of humans and done the most horrific things. I won't let you free him so he can carry on with his lunacy," Marguerite said firmly.
"Why are you fighting me on this?" Presha asked exasperatedly. "I love Derrek and he loves me. I've suffered all my life Marguerite, the least you can do is allow me to live happily with my soulmate instead of constantly trying to keep us apart!"

"Do you honestly believe Rupert will free Derrek when you've given him what he wants? He's just gonna betray you and leave the cathedral the first chance he gets!" Dimitri said vehemently.
"He's right Presha. Rupert is nothing but a ruthless, conniving, treacherous bastard who only cares about himself. He's a heartless monster who doesn't give a damn about anyone, unless they're useful to him!" Grandma exclaimed.

"He's using your love for Derrek to his advantage. He knows you'll do anything to get him back, that's why he's doing this. He's playing on your emotions! As soon as he gets what he wants he'll just leave you in the dust!" Aunt Selena chimed in.

"It's all lies!" Rupert denied. "When have I ever left someone in the dust after they've done something for me? Don't listen to them Presha, you'll see, as soon as I get the amulets' power, I'll free your lover and the two of you can finally be free to go where you want and do as you please without any outside interferences."

"Who are you kidding old man?" Marcus snorted. "I've done so many things for you and you were planning on deserting me when your friend comes."
"Friend? What friend are you talking about?" Presha questioned.
"The friend he called to pick up him and Adeline. I'm surprised he never told you anything about it."

"Were you planning on double crossing me Rupert?" Presha turned to glare at Rupert, her red eyes blazing with anger.
"Double cross you? Heavens no. I was simply formulating a plan B in case anything went wrong," Rupert said hurriedly.
"How stupid do you think I am? I know when someone is lying to me, and I know when I'm being played!"
