Sam

I opened my eyes to the dull grey room, expecting to see the same alcoves and shadows as before, only to find that it was now a continuous stream of grey. I turned my head this way and that, now unsure of which way I was facing. I looked down at my hands, panic beginning to constrict my chest, only to find the same dull grey enveloping my vision. I tried to pull my hands free. I shook my head in denial, causing a few strands of hair to fall across my eyes. I could feel them hanging there, brushing against my cheek, but my open eyes saw only grey.

I took a few shallow breaths, trying to stop my panic from taking over me. I looked around again, blinking hard and shaking my head a few times to try to clear my sight. But it just stayed the same. No matter what way I turned my head, all I saw was dull grey.

The same grey, everywhere.

Inescapable truths hit me as the lingering pain from the latest dose of Cruciamen increased in strength. I screamed, a terrible scream of shocked denial and pain.

I was blind.

‘Barton, can you not make this thing go any faster?’ Tony asked, getting agitated as they made their way to where Sam was being held. He had managed to find security footage of Samantha’s abduction, and had been able to follow the van through his satellite cameras to a compound about two hours outside of New York. It was a dingy, run-down, abandoned warehouse, or so it seemed. Tony got JARVIS to run a scan of the building, only to find that it had a very high-tech security system.

‘So how do we get past it?’ Natasha shouted over the engines. Steve looked over the compound, before looking off to the side.

‘Clint, bring us down over there!’ Steve called, pointing to a smaller building, just off the compound. Clint flew the jet through the air and set it down beside the building, hidden from view. He cut the engines and they all climbed out as the rotors stopped spinning.

‘What’s the plan Cap?’ Natasha called.

Steve surveyed the area and shrugged. ‘Get in, don’t get killed, get out with Sam.’ He said, looking unsure of himself. Natasha rolled her eyes.

‘Is this what you were like when you stormed HYDRA’s base in Germany?’ she asked, still unable to believe that Steve Rodgers was Captain America, the man of legend. She had seen him in action, and yes, he was a very skilled fighter, but a leader? A captain? She doubted it, but Captain Rodgers had a habit of proving her wrong.

‘Yes.’ Steve replied as he looked around. He turned back around and looked to Clint, who was just climbing out of the jet, having waited for the rotors to stop before getting out, just in case.

‘Barton, I need you to stay by the jet, station yourself on top of this building and be our eyes. See, don’t be seen.’ Clint nodded, flicking out his favourite bow to its full length. Steve turned to Bruce.

‘Banner, guard the jet, smash anything that gets close. Be ready, Sam will, hopefully not, but probably need immediate medical attention.’ He looked at the two of them.
