Sam

We reached SHIELD after half an hour and pulled into the car park. I was reluctantly pulled from the car be an amused Steve. As we walked to the door, I kept glancing over my shoulder at Tony’s Maserati. Clint, Natasha and Lexi had taken his aggressive shark-like Tesla. The two sat, gleaming in the sunlight, a stark contrast to the dull grey New York scenery.

We walked inside and I couldn’t help but shiver as we stepped through the boundaries. However much I forgave SHIELD, I couldn’t stop remembering what I had been through due to their impotence. Steve’s fingers found my hand and he quickly squeezed my hand comfortingly. I looked up at him and smiled.

It was funny to see how easily and quickly everyone switched from their normal, relaxed state, to business. I looked around the place as we walked through, nerves filling me. The fact that I knew that this meeting was about RHOKA didn’t exactly help.

I sighed shakily as we walked towards the elevator. Lexi turned around and smiled at me.

Just breathe Sam. You’ll be fine. It’s not like Fury has a vendetta against you. I heard Lexis’ voice say in my head. We stepped inside as the elevator doors opened and I felt a panic build up in me.

I looked around the steel death trap, my breathing becoming shaky. Steve noticed and his arm went around my shoulders. He gently rubbed my arm, scaring away my nerves with the warm, comforting gesture.

I practically jumped out of the elevator as the doors opened, memories of a bad experience all too close to the surface. I waited for the others to exit, and trailed behind as they headed into the boardroom. I kept my head down and sat down, praying that Nick would have decided not to send in the Avengers after RHOKA. It seemed that someone was listening to me.

Nick turned around and watched us with his ever-angry eye.

‘It has been decided that you will not be going in after RHOKA.’ he said. I couldn’t help but sigh in relief.

‘Yet.’ I ran a hand through my hair. Why would he give me that false sense of security? He looked over to me.

‘Agent Clarke, I have taken your concerns into account, and so, we have decided to send in a scout, a robot, before sending in any more agents.’ I nodded my thanks to him, making a mental note to prepare the Avengers on what to expect.

‘In the meantime, Clarke, I want you to brief the team on everything that you know on RHOKA. Give them any training that you think they might need.’ Well, that sorts that out. I sat up straighter and clasped my hands, resting my elbows on the armrests of the chair.
