Sam

I groaned and rolled over in the bed, my body sore and tired. These shocks were worse than any beating I had ever received.

I sat up and looked blankly around the room, before groaning again and getting up. I threw on some clean clothes, before heading out of the room, wincing as the world turned ethereally bright in the daylight, which streamed through the windows.

Great. Another concussion. I thought, running my hand through my hair as I made my way to the elevator. I frowned as I stepped inside.

Where is everyone?

‘Good morning Miss Clarke, I hope you are feeling better. Where to?’ JARVIS’ clear voice rang out through invisible speakers. I smiled.

‘Wherever Tony and Bruce are, please JARVIS. And thanks.’

The elevator started its swift and smooth decent, stopping three floors down. The astro lab.

I winced again as the doors opened, the bright lights shining in my eyes painfully.

‘Well you look like you have a hangover. What happened to you last night?’ Tony’s voice rang out, jarring through my skull.

I groaned. ‘A little quieter with the talking please.’ I grumbled as I made my way over to them. I sat down on a chair, folded my arms on the desk in front of me, and let my head fall into my arms.

‘Sam, you collapsed in the elevator. How much did you drink? Your blood alcohol levels were really high.’

I snapped my head up. ‘I didn’t drink. Not one drop. I got shocked in the elevator, my legs cut out and I blacked out. I didn’t drink. Ask the girls.’ I said sharply, before letting my head fall back down.

‘What the hell is wrong with me?’ I moaned into my elbow. One of them pulled at my arm, and I let them, not moving.

‘What if we shocked the chip, to disable whatever is attaching it to the nerve fibres?’ Tony suggested. I lifted my head and looked at him groggily through my hair.

‘The amount of volts you’d need to disable it would kill me.’ I grumbled, before laying my head down.

‘But what if we did it the way they did in Mission Impossible? Shock you with the de-fib to disable it, then shock you again to re-start your heart.’ He suggested.

I looked up at him and raised an eyebrow. ‘The girl in Mission Impossible died. So thanks but no thanks.’

Bruce looked at me. ‘Do you mind if we run a few more scans?’ I shrugged.

‘Why not?’

Two hours later, we were looking at 3D scans of my wrists and everything from the chips to my nerves.

‘They’re directly attached to your nerves. That’s astounding.’ Bruce mused, gazing at the holographic scans, floating in front of us.

I rolled my eyes and removed the muscles and bones from the scans, leaving just the nerves, blood vessels and chips there.

‘We could find out what metals they’re made of, then concoct something to dissolve them?’ Tony shrugged, but Bruce frowned.

‘But then that metal will be in your bloodstream.’ He reasoned. I shrugged.
