A/N
I know these chapters haven't been very romantic but I promise to give you a slow burn so good you'll turn to ashes.
Enjoy <3

"I'd say the plan is going well, Captain," said Flintlocke, polishing his blunderbuss. He took his feet down from the table, standing up to point his weapon around the room. "I never thought your father would accept you back, nevermind accept us for the first time."
"He just needs to accept me and Delara, that's all," said Nadakhan, looking out the ship's window. His gaze drifted to the map on the table, but his thoughts lay elsewhere. "She'll remember soon enough."
Flintlocke stopped dead in his tracks. He carefully locked the door, afraid of any pirates overhearing. "Captain, I thought we were over that."
"You underestimate her. She'll remember with time."
"You know how much I admire ye, but yer clinging onto false hope," he said. "After all those years, haven't you learned to love her for who she really is?"
"I know who she truly is. Her true self will come out in time. After the wedding, perhaps."
"Captain..."
"Do you doubt me, Flintlocke?" he said, his tone as polite as it was offended. "Are you happy that she's gone?"
It was Flintlocke's turn to be offended. "I would never."
"You had agreed with me that it was a sign when we found her," he said. "Someone wanted this. Whether it be fate or someone from above, it was meant to happen."
He sighed, leaning against the door. "The lass's like a daughter to me, you know that. Don't break her heart for something that won't happen."
"That girl is supposed to be a comrade to you. That's what you two used to be."
"I used to be comrades with Delara. Not her."
He slammed his hook on the door next to him, just barely brushing past his mustache. "Delara is her. Whether she likes it or not."
Flintlocke tried to seem unfazed. "What would Delara think of your delusion?"
"You can go ahead and ask her. She's sleeping in our bed as we speak."
His shoulders tensed. "Delara is sleeping six feet underground and has been for decades," he snapped. "Nadakhan, we've been through so much together. When I say that this ain't good for yer brain, I mean it."
"It's alright that you don't understand," he said in a tone that was terrifyingly calm. "You'll be free to believe in what you want after the wedding, anyway."
He crossed his arms. "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It means just that. You will be free to travel anywhere you want. Govern the ship yourself, perhaps."
"And what are you going to do?"
"Become King, of course. My wrongdoings as a pirate will catch up to me at some point, I will have to distance myself to... save face."
Flintlocke scowled. "Save face? You're abandoning us to look good in front of a bunch of peasants?"
"Precisely. Claiming the throne has always been the end goal."
He raised his voice. "We were supposed to rule together! Reclaim Djinnjago!"
"If my father fell," he said. "I didn't need him dead, after all. Just wrapped around my finger." He smirked to himself, chuckling as he twisted his hook. "Would you look at that, the boy knows his stuff."
