I've been meaning to showcase this lovely fanart for a while now, but never got the chance. So, why not combine it with a late birthday present for the amazing person who made it? Happy late birthday, chocoqueen29 <3. I hope it's not too short.

Enjoy!

The old planks creaked beneath his boots as he paced around the ship's halls. Up and down the stairs, he made sure everything was running smoothly; he went through his list over and over, making sure that nothing was forgotten.

He was so focused, in fact, that he didn't hear the door opening next to him until someone pulled him in by his collar.

His hat fell. She picked it up, twisting it around with her finger.

"You're still wearing that pirate hat?" she said, closing the door and leaning against it. He was trapped.

He cocked an eyebrow. "Yes. Flintlocke said it was the Captain's Code."

A smirk crept up her lips as she leaned against the doorframe. "Have you considered that he's lying to you to get you to wear an oversized hat?"

He blushed for not considering it sooner. He gulped as she shook a step closer, but looked away. "Perhaps not."

Her fingers came to trail his jaw, but he wasn't falling for it. "Weren't you supposed to be counting our stock?"

"Done hours ago. I couldn't find you with you wandering around and whatnot. I had to wait here, all bored for so long..."

He rolled his eyes, then let out a sigh of defeat. "I guess taking a short break wouldn't hurt..."

Her voice returned to its usual tone, maybe even softer. A smile was brought onto her lips as she played with his hair. "Exactly. You don't need to overwork yourself when there isn't any work to do. That's my job."

He chuckled, intertwining his hand with hers. "Alright, what do you have in mind?"

She pretended to think, then shot him a grin.

It wasn't often that they enjoyed some time alone after he became the Captain. There was always a chore to do, always a pirate running around. Their ship was rather large for its kind, but even it wasn't a mansion.

Of course, every night, they had the chance to spend time together; reminisce on their day, the time before that... all while cuddling under the massive blanket of their bed. Sure, it wouldn't help that the pirates would organise feasts and music contests late into the night, but at least they got to laugh along from their room below.
