A/N
Uh, guess which story will turn out a chapter longer! Couldn't fit it all in this chapter so you're getting another one.
A bit unrelated to the story but after the recent seasons and such I've started to be more wary of consuming new things (fandom and non-fandom) due to being scared of sad endings.
When life is incredibly exhausting, a happy ending is healing and comforting honestly. More of those please.
Enjoy.

"Are ya sure ya can't stay longer?" said Edna, putting away the last plate in the cupboard.
"We'd love to, but... we're in a bit of a rush," said Nya. "We'd leave quicker if Jay would let me help..."
That got a chuckle out of her. She joined her on the table. "Ya know how he is, doing everything for everyone. Plus, his father's there helping him."
"I mean, it's just packing up our things. It's not like we have a lot of stuff."
"Ya have the food I've packed ya. We're not letting you leave on an empty stomach."
Nya smiled awkwardly. "You're awfully kind to someone you met yesterday," she said.
She reached her hand to grab her own. "Jay's friends are our friends too. And he clearly cares about ya." She pulled away and laughed. "Oh, I haven't seen him hug something so tightly since he started kissing his pillow."
She blushed. Maybe falling asleep together every other night was something they should have really stopped doing a while ago.
She focused on the pillow instead. Her second-hand embarrassment overshadowed her own. "Really?"
"Oh, yes, he was so nervous about his first kiss, he tried practicing on his pillow." Edna's laughter died down. "The kiss never happened, it was just a dumb prank."
She didn't know what to say. "At least he gained a new skill from it..."
"Why? Have ya kissed him?"
She was left with her mouth slightly open, stammering for words but only letting out a series of 'uh's.
Luckily, Edna switched the topic too fast for her to process. "Just joking, sweetie. But you two seem to be really close."
She went back to the kitchen as if nothing had happened. The faint smell of coffee was pleasing, but she just couldn't ignore the thought eating up her mind for the past few days.
Who could have known him better than his own mother? She was the right person to ask. Then again, Edna was his mother. There was a very real possibility it would escalate in a very different direction.
Nevertheless, she took a deep breath, tapping her fingers on the table.
"Does Jay usually... overreact?" she finally asked.
"Oh, a ton. He panics easily, overthinks sometimes. We wish we could say it's genetic, but... ya know. Perhaps an acquired trait." She turned to her, her forehead wrinkling as she raised her eyebrow. "What for?"
She gulped. "I don't know... When he says he loves something, does he mean it? Hypothetically speaking..." Edna gave her a knowing look. She turned away from her gaze. "I made it too obvious, didn't I?"
"Afraid so, dearie," she said as she stirred her coffee. Her smirk could even be heard through her voice. "He may say it a lot, but he means it. He knows how important that word is to us."
