November, 1963
Nadine had come to the conclusion that she was stuck here. It had been six months since she arrived and there had been no mention of a Hargreeves anywhere. I hope they're all safe and together, at least."Are you ready, Nads?" Eli called from outside her door, knocking on it slightly. "Almost!" She answered, turning to her dresser. She pulled on a brown shirt with pink sleeves and white outlining. She tucked it into some high waisted jean shorts she had found folded away somewhere. The Moores buy her more clothes than she can count. She even has some that she's never fully unfolded before.
She grabbed her diner uniform and pulled it on overtop of the clothes, buttoning it up. She had learned a few months ago that you can wear clothes under as long as you can't see them out. Nadine smiled at herself in the mirror while she put on mascara.
The girl tugged on her chucks and walked towards her door, joining Eli on their walk to the truck. "Gosh, I really don't wanna work today." Nadine rolled her eyes at the boy as she jumped into the truck, putting on her seatbelt. "You say that every day we work." Eli nodded and pointed at her. "And I mean it. Every day." Nadine giggled at him and pushed his shoulder, making him laugh.
"Hey doll, can you pass me the sunglasses over there?" Eli asked, pointing at her side of the car. She nodded and grabbed them, looking up and out the window. A flash of a familiar boy went through her vision but she shook her head. I must be seeing things again. "Here ya go." She handed them to him and he put them on, humming to the music that was playing through the cars stereo.
Eli pulled into a parking spot and they got out, starting to fix their uniforms. They walked into the door and made their way inside, saying hi to their friends and the Moores. Nadine walked up to Paula and leaned towards her ear while tying her apron behind her. "You're right, something is happening. I'm not sure what to do." Paula looked around with tight lips and pulled her into a hug, smiling brightly to cover up the topic of conversation. The bell on the door rang, alerting them that someone had walked in.
Nadine stayed facing Paula, who glanced back at whoever was at the door. "I'll get you in a second, you can have a seat wherever you like." The girl told them, pointing towards the open tables. "Actually, I'm looking for someone." His voice.
