"If you close the door
The night could last forever
Leave the wineglass out
And drink a toast to never
Oh, someday I know
Someone will look into my eyes
And say hello
You're my very special one

But if you close the door
I'd never have to see the day again"

But if you close the doorI'd never have to see the day again"

CHAPTER 20: PURSUIT OF WHOLENESS

"Five, you don't have to explain. I already know." Nadine exhaled with a smile and shook her head. Her and the boy were on their way to pick up Vanya. "We have, like, 40 minutes left, right?"

He raised an eyebrow at the girls question, turning his head every few seconds to study her.

Five was driving —very quickly— and Nadine was in the passenger seat with a book. Her hoodie sat to the side of her in between them (he had brought it from Mortys for her), tucked against her side, and her flannel was rolled up to her elbows. Her hair was pulled up into a wavy ponytail with strands hanging out in the front.

"What do you mean you know everything already?" He questioned. Nadine pushed some hair out of her face and closed her book in her lap, keeping a finger in between the pages so she didn't lose her spot.

"I saw you and your brothers. Sometimes, when I'm under extreme pressure and unconscious, I'm able to see you and what you're doing. I've been watching you for the better part of today." Nadine sent him a sweet smile and opened her book back up, picking up where she left off.

If Five was shocked, he didn't show it. He cleared his throat and the two just continued driving with music playing quietly in the background.

"You look good with an ax, by the way." The girl shot him a playful smile with a chuckle.

Five rolled his eyes and a sarcastic grin grew on his face. "And you look good with a knife in your stomach."

Nadine jokingly scoffed and hit his shoulder lightly with the book. "Ouch, too soon."

Silence filled the car again, the only sound being the radio on a song neither of them knew. It was so subtle that you could only tell it was music if you really listened for it, if not it could blend in to the sounds of the car.

"How can you be reading at a time like this?" The boy raised an eyebrow at her, the corner of his mouth lifting a small amount.
