And you know you're going to fall

CHAPTER 9: DESTINY BOY

"I need a coffee." Five spoke to the two. They had been walking for a little bit now but haven't had a chance to speak yet. Vanya was probably still trying to process everything she had just found out. Nadine smiled and put her hands in her jacket pockets. "I know a good place."

The three ended up outside of the Moore diner. It was the same as she had left it last night. Steady business, one of the letters in the neon sign wasn't lit, and when you walked inside you got a whiff of their coffee.

Nadine loved working here, when she did. The smell of coffee always made her feel more comfortable.

The three sat down at the counter and waited for the waitress. She didn't know who it'd be today, she hadn't asked the night before, but she was hesitant for it to be Margie. Does Paula work today? The sound of the back door opening made her look up, giving her the answer.

Paula Summers gave you the same feeling as lighting a candle in the middle of a blackout. You were intimidated at first — she was beautiful and confident, there's nothing more intimidating than that — but then she smiled. Her smile was lighting the candle. It made you warm and happy, something you don't come around so often nowadays. Happiness.

"Sugar! I've missed you so much already and I just saw you yesterday." Paula reached over the table and grabbed onto Nadine's hands, giving her one of those smiles. "Aren't you gonna introduce me?" Her brown eyes flickered towards the boy sat beside her. Nadine exhaled with a big smile and put a hand out towards him. "This is Five. Five, this is Paula. She was my first friend outside of Eli here in Dallas." The boy smiled up at her and stuck out a hand, giving her a firm handshake. "It's nice to meet you, Paula." The girl took ahold of his hand with both of hers and looked him in the eyes. "The pleasure is all mine. I've always wanted to meet Nadine's destiny, ever since she told us about you."

Nadine's face got warm as she looked away, throwing her hands up and covering her face with the sleeves of her jacket. She could feel it. The amused grin and green eyes. Nadine was in this moment of peace only for a second when the door opening got her attention again. Margie.

Margaret "Margie" Petron was another face Nadine used to love seeing. Recently, not so much. The girl walked up to them and took out a pad, stepping around Paula to do so.

"Hiya Nadine, it feels like I haven't seen you in forever." She commented, looking the other girl up and down quickly. "Hey Margie." Nadine smiled at her. Five must've sensed her change in attitude. The boy reached down and grabbed onto one of her belt loops with his index finger, letting his thumb lightly rub her side. She could feel her body relax slightly but her heart pounded faster, making it a little harder to focus.
