Mother
~ Danzig

"Mother
Can you keep them in the dark for life?
Can you hide them from the waiting world?
Oh mother

Father
Gonna take your daughter out tonight
Gonna show her my world
Oh father

Not about to see your light
But if you wanna find hell with me
I can show you what it's like
'Til you're bleeding"

CHAPTER 26: FOR YOU

It was cold. Cold and quiet. The high pitched tone of Vanya's power resonated like white noise, blocking out any other sound. Five and Nadine were covered with debris from the insane amount of gunfire the house just took.

The witch pushed herself off the ground and ran towards the window facing where the battle was, Five following closely behind her. She looked out into the field with wide eyes, the boy attached to her side.

Vanya floated high above the ground, blue light encircling her. Nadine squinted, noticing something still standing in the field. A blue bubble with two barely recognizable figures inside it, but she knew who it had to be. Lila and the Handler.

"How?" The girl muttered to her soulmate, glancing at the side of his face. His eyebrows were furrowed and his mouth was open in shock.

Suddenly, the high pitched tone took on again, this time from someone else. Lila floated up to the same height as Vanya, a light-blue ball of energy in the middle of her chest. "What the-"

"Shit. Shit." Five cut her off and pulled her into his chest, throwing them back on the ground under the table and rolling. She squeezed her eyes shut and felt him tighten his arms around her.

Nadine looked up at him. He covered her head as a force pushed everything, tucking his face into her neck. They stayed in that position for a few moments. She could feel his breath fanning her frozen skin. She shivered. Her body had grown cold from the snow storm outside and his radiated heat.

Five pushed himself back a bit. His nose brushed her cheekbone and against her nose until he stared down at her. She detailed his face with her eyes, making sure that no visible injuries had formed. When she looked back into his eyes, she realized he was doing the same. She felt his chest deflate against hers as he exhaled.

There was a second of silence— of peace.

Something large fell through the ceiling, landing a few feet from them. They looked over from their position, recognizing the thing as Luther. He groaned, rubble from the roof covering him.
