*Present time*
All the members were looking at Maya with concern in their eyes as she said that she had to go. Her mother was leaving already with her dad and she felt bad that she wasn't going with them.
"Wait, can we at least follow each other on Instagram so we don't lose touch again?" Hobi asked her and she looked back at her parents but nodded either way, quickly pulling her phone out again.
She gave Hoseok her username and he gave him his. "Are you sure you are okay?" It's funny how some things never change.
"I'm fine, really." She told him and he nodded even though he wasn't convinced. She looked back at Jungkook who hasn't left his gaze from her but when he saw that she was watching him now, he looked away quickly, but she still noticed.
"I'll see you guys at some other point in our lives." She said half kidding, half not. She knew they were going on a small tour in Asia the next few weeks, so who knows if she'll ever see them again.
"Don't get lost again, yeah?" Jin said as he went to hug her, making her remember so many more things that had left her mind until now. They were unblocking so many memories, so many emotions.
When she was truly happy.
"Bye." She waved at the rest of the members, including Jungkook who just stood there without doing anything else, making her heart break a bit. It was fine though, she knew the feeling was never mutual.
However, before she left, Namjoon surprised her by pulling her to one side. No one seemed to noticed, as everyone else continued to take photos with the other fans.
"You shouldn't of come back." Maya's heart broke as she heard Namjoon's words. He wasn't serious, right? Maybe he was kidding? Is he going to laugh now and tell her it's all a joke?
When Namjoon didn't say anything else, but still waited for her to say something, she was so taken aback. "I-I'm sorry- I just wanted Jungkook to know I still support him, even if it's from afar."
"You need to stay far away, okay? You can support us, but you'll have to be like any other fan." He said with such seriousness, making my eyes watery. "If by any chance Victoria is also a fan, tell her the same thing."
'I thought that he had a crush on her once, because they were pretty close. Guess that changed too.' Maya thought as she tried to fight the tears.
This was a mistake. He's right.
Without saying another word, not even a hug nor a goodbye, Namjoon left her standing there. And casually it started to rain.
Maya laughed in her head sarcastically, as she started to get wet but still saw from afar how all of them were so kind to their fans, how they haven't changed.
*Flashback*
"What do you mean you like another guy from the group? Who do you have feelings for?" Jungkook asked Maya as he was seriously very curious. She has read the signs, at least she thought she did and she felt like maybe, just maybe he felt the same way.
"I-I have feelings for you Jk." She finally said as she closed her eyes, looking away from him. And she knew it wasn't the best idea, because of the words he said after that were not what she was expecting.
She knew it that moment that she had made the biggest mistake, because after that everything changed.
"Oh." 'Oh', that was all he said.
She felt her eyes watering as she couldn't believe how badly she had misread the signs. They even had a song together, called 'I won't give up' by Jason Mraz and he did not feel the same way?
"I'm sorry Maya." Jungkook said and it was then that she looked back at him again. "I just- I just don't feel the same way."
Yeah, she could figure it out alright? "It's fine." She suddenly said, standing up from the bench. It was a peaceful scenario, that just turned into grey. They where looking at the beach, under the sun and now it suddenly turning into a cloudy sky, the waves crashing hard against the rocks, making everything feel like a movie.
"Maya-"
"No, really it's fine. I- I didn't expected you to feel the same way." She laughed sarcastically, but what was funny is that her voice didn't match her face at all. And Jungkook noticed that, he knew he fucked up too.
"You know you can't really lie to me."
"No shit, that's why I just told you something that is going to change us." She was getting mad but not at him, at herself. At how stupid she was.
"Maya, I'm sorry if I made you feel like that."
"Like what exactly? Like I'm the most stupid idiot in the whole world? I know, I know, you always have the best intentions, because you are just so perfect, you can never hurt my feelings." And that's the worst part, Maya is going to have a difficult time trying to get over him, seeing as he was never going to feel the same way towards her.
"You are not stupid-"
"Yes yes I am." She interrupted him again, not wanting to hear pity in his voice. Drops began to fall on them, wind passing by at the same time, making her shook her head as she hated this day more than any other moment in her life so far. "Look, it's fine. You have new friends now, you are changing and so I'm I."
"I truly care about you though, I don't want you to think that because I'm making new friends that I will forget about you."
"You know, I mean what our song says." She said, ignoring what Jungkook just told her, and he was breaking seeing her like this. This has probably been the most vulnerable he has ever seen her. "I won't give up on us. If you need some space, before coming back to me, I'll give you the space and time."
With that she hugged him, knowing that he really didn't knew what to say. She could see it in his face that he didn't want to hurt her more. "Thank you for being the best friend I could ever ask for." She told him and he knew in that moment that he had lost someone he will miss. But there was no turning back now.
After the hug she looked at him through the rain and turned around, running back to her house which was a few blocks away, but she knew, she knew she had to go home. If she stayed any longer, she would've changed her mind and tried to win him back. But his heart was somewhere else and it wasn't with her.
She knew that and as her tears mixed with the rain, she regretted ever telling him how she felt. She knew that after this moment, nothing would be the same for them. She ruined their friendship and she's going to regret it for the rest of her life.
