Back at the condo, Katie and Jase had just got Michael tucked in and ready for bed. He had such a long day at Disney Land and could hardly keep his eyes open.
Just then Katie got sick and had to run to the bathroom.
Jase waited on her to come out. He was beginning to worry about her because she has been so exhausted and getting sick quite often now. He wanted her to rest this week but seemed like it wasn't going to help her much.
When she came out, she sat on the edge of her bed.
"You are pale. Why don't you lay down? I am going to get my doctor to come out and see you tomorrow." Jase insisted.
She crawled up to her pillows and lay her head against the cold, silky fabric. "I'm fine."
"You have been sick and exhausted for several days now. I think you have the flu or even Covid."
She giggled. "It isn't covid."
"Just please let me have a doctor look over you." He sat beside her.
She agreed to see the doctor. She knew something wasn't right.
She glanced over at Michael who was sound asleep. She often wondered what he was dreaming about and if he would grow up to be a decent man or turn out to be like his real father. She wanted to make sure that would never happen.
"Why the long face?" Jase wondered as he rubbed her thigh.
She sighed. "I can't help to wonder if he will be like Dylan when he grows up."
Jase looked over at Michael. "He is my son and he will be just like me."
Katie smiled. She knew he was right. Jase was already doing a wonderful job raising him. "I can't believe how much I love you." She pulled him down and planted a kiss on his lips.
They made out for a moment, but then Jase tucked her in and got in the bed beside her. "I have to stop myself from making love to you tonight. It has been a long day and I want you to rest."
She yawned and closed her eyes. Jase wrapped his arms around her and kissed the back of her head.
Dylan was sitting in his cell when he got a call. The officer outside the steel bars motioned for him to come to the phone which was down the hall.
He answered the phone unsure of who would want to talk to him. "Yes?"
"Hi, stranger... Did you miss me?" It was Jessie, Katie's mother.
"What the hell are you calling me for?" He was puzzled and irritated.
"Is that any way to talk to the lady that is about to bail you out?" She giggled into the phone.
"Look, it has been 5 years. I am a different man. I don't want your money."
She was quiet for a moment and then began to inform him of things we knew nothing about. "You have a son."
His heart sank. She had to be lying. "You are lying. You will stop at nothing to get what you want."
"You have no idea, but this time I am telling you the truth. His name is Michael. He will be 5 soon. Don't you think he should know his real father?"
He paused for a moment. Did he believe anything she was saying? Did he want to be the man he was before he was arrested and isolated from the world? He had been working on changing himself. He wanted to be a better man. He owed it to himself to see if she was telling the truth. "Fine, but you had better not be lying. When am I getting out of here?"
