My Approval

I sensed today was going to be horrible. I gracefully walked down the stairs and hallways to walk into the ballroom for the masquerade ball where my father is setting up for the masquerade in two days. He stood in the middle of the room directing people where to put stuff and how to decorate. Typical father, trying to boss everyone around.

I walked to him and hugged him "Hi, father."

"Good morning Elena! Do you think we should have white or gold curtains?"

I smile "White with gold designs."

He snapped his fingers "Maids! Get me white curtains with gold designs" he looked at me and smiled "I'm so glad you finally agreed to marry, Jacob."

I chuckled "My cousin is smart, strong, independent, and powerful."

Dad smiled "Very strong. He will give you strong kids...maybe razzle the berries strong?"

I laugh and snort "Don't say that ever again."

Remembering the night our lips slid against each other made me feel horrible. I'm such a pitiful being for hurting Arthur and not being willing to hear him out. I hope he will forgive my mistakes. I hate myself.

"I'm still not sleeping with him."

He smiles "Empire Elena, the empire. You will end up caving in."

Jacob waltzes into the ballroom "Dearest cousin!"

I smiled "Dearest big cousin!"

He hugged me "So, I'm getting ready to go on a wild hunt. Are you coming with me?"

I giggle "No way!" I lean in and whisper in his ear "I'm going to have to talk to Maria about my stupid decision."

He smiles "Oh, Maria wants to talk to you. I've already talked everything over with her but I told her she has to ask for your permission first.'

"What is it about?"

He smiled "Her schooling for the coming school year in Kingstone."

I raise and eyebrow "She's already in school-"

He rubs my back "Just hear her out" he exits the ballroom.

"Look at that, you two are already talking like husband and wife" dad elbows me.

I frown "We've always talked like that" I ran out the ballroom chasing him "wait! Jacob!"

He turns around confused "Finally joining me?"

I shake my head "No" and sigh "I have to tell Diane about what happened between us..."

He bit his lip "Do you really have to?"

I gulped "it's the right thing to do" I hugged him "I'm sorry but I told Arthur and Diane deserve to know."

He chuckled "it's a good thing you're not dating Arthur and I'm not dating Diane."

"Yeah" It clicked "Wait what?"

"We didn't technically cheat because we're not dating either of them. Plus we are engaged. So we don't really have to apologize for anything."

I rub my arm still upset "Well, go enjoy your hunt. I'll be here."

He turns to exit and I walk back into the ballroom, dad smiles "I'm almost done organizing."

Maria walks into the ballroom "Mommy we need to talk."

I pick her up and hold her in my arms "What is it Princess?"

She gulps, scared of my reaction "For this school year I want to go to a private school in Kingstone.'

I sighed "Jacob told me, why?"

She wrapped her arms around my neck "Because in Kingstone I have opportunities being inside of a career choice early. It could potentially help me."

I smile "Do you promise to visit me or your father every weekend?"

She nods her head constantly "Yes!"

I laugh "Okay stop moving your head so violently so you don't hurt your brain."

She smiles "Thank you!"

I kiss her cheek "I'll tell Jacob to enroll you over there" I move a piece of hair out of her face "Sweetie I need to talk to you."

"What is it mommy?"

"Your father and I...we're not going to try and fight off the wedding."

He looked at me shocked "So you and Jacob are marrying?"

I nod my head "I'm afraid so..."

She bit her lip "So what's going to happen to our family?"

I sigh "Nothing is changing. Just me and Arthur, we're not going to try and be together."

"I'm not mad at you mommy or daddy. I just wish you guys would marry instead of you and Jacob."

I run a hand through her hair "I know sweetie and I'm sorry it has to be like this."

"Jacob told me you guys tried kissing a few times, why?"

I whispered "To see if we could do this marriage thing. I don't want to get married to him. It felt awkward for both of us."

"I understand mommy" I put her on the ground "I'm going to go read my murder mystery book now."

I kissed her forehead "Okay sweetie."
