"Hey! Hey, Adria! You have to wake up!" Adria felt someone shake her.
She jolted awake.
Adria expected to see her father, as she was used to him waking her up in the middle of the night to tell her that they need to pack their things and go. To her surprise, she was faced with the sight of a hysterical Raven. Adria heard the sound of gunshots somewhere in the building.
"Come on, we have to go!" Raven pulled her out of bed, carried her over her shoulder, and ran out the room.
The seven-year-old's heart was beating a mile a minute as Raven rushed them to the room they had been in earlier that night.
"What's happening?!"
"The facility is under attack!"
A round of explosions shook the building. Adria screamed. Raven stumbled, losing her footing, then broke into a sprint.
They reached the lounge room, running to the rest of the group, who were facing the large window. Raven put Adria down, wrapping an arm around her and keeping her close. They screamed as a tornado destroyed everything in its path right outside the window. Adria was trembling. The group watched in horror as a bearded man with dark, red skin took down agents one by one with his spiked tail.
Adria felt hot tears sliding down her face. Raven covered her eyes with her palm.
Suddenly, Adria heard the glass in front of them shatter. Everyone shrieked, jumping backwards.
They heard gunfire coming from the hallway right outside the room.
"Wait, wait, you want the mutants? They're right through that door. Just let us normal people go. We're no threa-" thump.
Adria gasped. She heard as the door opened slowly.
"Where's the telepath?" she heard a man ask.
"Not here," someone else replied.
"Too bad, well at least I can take this silly thing off. Good evening, my name is Sebastian Shaw, and I am not here to hurt you." Adria's heart dropped, he'sthe bad guy they were trying to catch.
The scary man gave a speech about how humans would never accept them and to join him. Adria didn't understand most of what he said, she was too terrified to pay attention.
At some point during the speech, Raven's hand fell away from her eyes.
Adria watched as Angel took the bad man's hand.
"Angel," Raven said in shock.
"Are you kidding me?" Sean asked.
"Come on, we don't belong here," Angel told them, tears in her eyes, "and that's nothing to be ashamed of."
