"Errum, will you be my valentine?"
Errum's head spun and she grabbed the nearest chair to steady herself. She had dreamt of this moment for years, but now that it has finally happened, she could've fainted then and there.
Adam Phil, her forever love, was now sitting on his knees in the middle of the hallway, with a red rose in his hands and pleading in his eyes.
The whole school stood there, in awe. Nobody moved. Errum could hear her heart beating. Drops of tears rolled down her eyes as she stood there, transfixed.
"Errum, will you be my valentine?" Adam repeated, now taking her hands in his.
The touch felt ungodly. Errum felt her skin burning under the comforting hands of Adam.
Was this it? The moment she'd been waiting for all her life? Was her life going to turn around now?
She felt all the curious, awestruck eyes on her now, and she wanted to shrink under their gaze. The urge to run away was overwhelming. But she decided she wasn't going to embarrass Adam. Not today. Now that her life was on track, she might as well practice being normal.
Errum silently nodded and instantly broke into tears. Adam stood up and pulled her into a tight hug, while the others stood and had no idea how to react. Errum kept sobbing in the warm embrace of Adam's arms.
The bell rang, but no one seemed to be at a hurry to move. Finally Adam made a move and held Errum's hand, taking her away from the sight of the world.

Later that day
"I'm glad you accepted my proposal," Adam smiled while holding Errum's hand as they sat side by side in the grass.
Errum blushed and nodded. She spoke a very few words, as always, but she was trying to not blow everything up.
She still felt like this was some sort of dream she was gonna snap out in five minutes. She wasn't a religious person. The existence of God is what she sometimes doubted in because well, if He was out there somewhere, where was he? Why didn't he protect her from the demons? Why didn't he let her have a few moments of happiness in life? Why did he give her perpetual sorrow? Was he such a cruel entity?
But it seemed like finally she was having some success in getting the attention of her Lord. Maybe now she was going to get a chance in life? She could run away with Adam, out into the woods, away from Red Saint and all her torture. Maybe she'd take Alayna with her. The three of them would have the best time of their lives.
Adam shook her slightly and broke her trance.
"It's so hard to understand you. You say so little and seem to be always thinking. I wanna know what's on your mind," he made a cute pouty face and Errum laughed out loud.
This was when she stopped and realized- did she just laugh out loud? She laughed. And made a sound. She giggled. In how many years?
"What happened?"
"Uh..noth-nothing? I was just..nothing," Errum averted Adam's curious gaze.
He then took her face and slowly, very softly, pulled her closer. Their faces now were inches away from each other. Errum felt her body shaking. She had never been in such close proximity with anyone, let alone Adam. As soon as Adam closed his eyes came closer for a kiss, she pulled away.
"I..I don't- can't- I have to..class.." and she picked her bag.
"Hey hey hey, Errum is everything okay? Why are you being weird? Was it something I did? I thought you liked me?"
