Kevin's mother was a short and round woman, with not-very distinct features of her own. The stress seemed to have gotten the best of her, as she may have been in her mid thirties but looked way older. Her face disheveled, her hair was a mess, and a permanent frown was plastered across her face.
"Hello, I'm Detective Ma-"
Kevin's mother held her plan upright.
"I know who you are, Detective. You lot have been troubling my already troubled son since the day we set foot here! Can you, please, stop for the love of God!"
"Mrs. White, I know Kevin himself and all of you are going through a lot right now. But please, co-operate. This is a murder investigation-"
"I. Don't. Care. That monster of a girl left my son bedridden. He could've died! I don't know what on earth has gotten on to him, he won't even lift a finger against her. And you think I will let that girl haunt my son anymore than she already has?"
"I understand your concern Mrs. White, and trust me, if it wasn't absolutely necessary for the investigation we would've never bothered-"
"I don't care who killed her mother, and though she walked free, I know deep in my heart, it was her. She killed her mother. One look at Kevin and you'll know that, too. For one, it could've been Kevin's blood on her hands had she struck the wrong nerves. Oh Jesus..." And she broke into uncontrollable sobs.
Eyzah tried to console the hysterical woman, but failed miserably. Mrs. White was adamant. She tried coaxing her, then threatening her of felony for not cooperating with an ongoing investigation. But there was no way she was letting anyone near her ailing son.
Eyzah felt sorry for her but had bigger fishes to fry. She had to meet Kevin, now.
She felt disgusted on herself, but there was no other option.
"If you let me meet Kevin, I will not charge him for what he did."
This caught the woman's attention and she slowed down.
"What he did? What are you talking about, Detective? He was the one who suffered, he was the one who almost died. What did my son do!"
"Why do you think, Mrs. White, Errum, out of nowhere, hit your son?"
"He..he was trying to save Adam. She was trying to hit him, and he..he tried to stop her."
Eyzah chuckled.
"You believed that? Really? If so, shouldn't your darling son have complained about it to the authorities, get Errum expelled, like you wished he did? I'm pretty sure he hates her, after what she did, this would've been nothing. She isn't even sorry for this. And yet, here we are. Your son, refuses to meet the police or open his mouth. If you haven't put 2 and 2 together yet, let me spell it out for you. Your son, did something horrible to Errum, that enraged her and made her took such a grave step. Errum has confessed to what he did, and trust me, you don't wanna know what."
Mrs. White gaped at her, trying to take all of that in.
"Wha.. you're lying. My- my Kevin is not that kind of guy. He..he won't-"
"Mrs. White. When it comes to parents, children know all the secrecy in the world. Never mind that. Please, let me go. I need his help to solve the case..in return, I will brush past what he did, and you can go back to your former life, forgetting all of this."
Eyzah's stomach lurched with guilt. This was the extent she decided to get down to, break a mother's heart and ruin her son's image to her probably forever?
No, she will make it right. Just..not now.
Mrs. White thought for a while and slowly nodded, letting Eyzah in the cabin.

"Please go away, I can barely talk, I don't wanna meet anyone."
Kevin laid on the bed, his head wrapped in gauge, a catheter connected to a bag of glucose and oxygen supply to his nose.
"I know you're hurting, Kevin. But this is absolutely important. I will be quick, just a few questions and we'll be done. I won't be long."
"I don't want to. Go away."
Eyzah's patience was running thin. She had done a lot to get inside, she wasn't going back now.
But it was okay. She had done her homework. And she had a reputation of getting inside people's heads.
"I know what you and your friend did, Kevin."
His eyes shot up.
Eyzah slowly sat by the side of the bed.
"Errum confessed why she did this to you. Mainly because you were in her way of harming Adam, yes. Because Adam was the one in the wrong, and you were protecting him."
Kevin sighed and a drop of tear rolled down his cheek.
"And you haven't filled a single complaint against Errum. Because you're still protecting Adam, aren't you?"
Kevin's lips quivered as if to say something, but nothing came out.
"How does it feel, Kevin? Living your whole life like Adam's bodyguard? From what I gathered from your classmates, you did have a reputation for that. But upto an extent where your life was on the line. And here you are, still fighting against yourself to save Adam."
"You've always been the nicer one, instead of Adam, who was a trouble maker, wasn't he? But you were the one always punished for what he did. You were always covering for his mistakes. And look at you today. Bed ridden, in a hospital, fighting for your life, while your mum is outside crying her eyeballs out, day and night. Whereas Adam gets to enjoy life on two legs, but it should've been him here, in your position. And he has the audacity to ask you to stay silent. What did you do to deserve this? Weren't you just being a good friend?"
Kevin remained silent, processing all that.
"Kevin, this is your chance. I'm here to take your interview, but completely off record. You tell me everything there is to tell, and make Adam get what he deserves. Enough of covering up his shit. You don't want to make your life hell again. Let everything out, and I promise you I'll keep you out of this. Come on boy, you can do it."
He gave a serious thought, and then broke into sobs, showing an uncanny resemblance of his mother's features.
"Adam... Adam did a bad, bad thing, detective. Oh Jesus..." He covered his face with his hoodie.
A/N: On a scale of 10, rate Adam.
