Sean Brown looked over to Alayna. She radiated pure beauty while she looked at her feet and pushed a few strands of her hair back. The first time Sean saw Alayna, crying over the death of her mother and arrest of her sister, he was awestruck. She looked like a goddess, with her wavy chestnut hair and milky skin. She was sight for sore eyes. And so every now and then, he looked over at Alayna when he was bored in the courtroom. It felt good on his eyes.

The fat bellied prosecutor O'Reilly cross examined Adam Phills, and Sean passed over his turn. He had nothing to ask that guy, he knew making a fool out of himself wasn't going to help. Errum was fucked. Even her dear sister knew that, for which she didn't once question Sean's competence in the case. He turned to Errum, who just sat there writing..more like scrawling, in a tissue paper. He had just peeked once out of curiosity, she was trying to describe the courtroom. It was nothing much, just some random words being pushed together to make a sentence. What was she...6?

He shifted in his chair as he thought about what Netflix show to watch tonight after a long cold shower. Should he call his friends over? When the case was over, he would go clubbing every night for a week straight. Maybe he'd take Alayna with him. He'd be her head to cry on, and soon enough, things would change between them.

The deep voice of Mr. O'Reilly broke his trance.

"Your honor, as it has been proved time and again, the accused Ms. Hassan displayed psychopathic behavior, was rough and abusive towards the people around her including her mother as testified by Ms. Alayna Hassan, and was the only one who was there when Mrs. Hassan was pushed from the rooftop. Now the only question remains, Why? Why did she do this? Why would a 17 y/o just all on a sudden feel the urge to end her mother's life? Even though we have enough evidence to back up the fact that Errum was not normal and was capable of actively harming her mother, we have even more concrete evidence to explain the motive behind Errum murdering her mother."

Mr. O'Reilly moved across the hall and walked over to the judge with a red leather bound diary in his hand. Sean Brown looked at it and his shoulders slumped instantly. The first reason why he had lost all his hopes of winning this case was because of this particular diary that wrote Errum's doom and Brown's loss in the first case of his career.

He glanced at Errum and saw her arch her eyebrows and sit up straight. As if something woke her up from her trance. She looked intently at the diary, and slowly looked Brown in the eyes.

It was the first time Errum looked Brown in the eyes, and he felt a spark in him. Her eyes, for the first time, didn't feel like a wax figure's who woke up one day and pushed her mother from a thousand feet. This was a real human being with real emotions softly looking at him. He saw the fear in her eyes, something he had never seen before. Finally he could see it, behind the cloud of pretence and indifference- Errum Hassan was broken, sad and afraid. Errum needed help.

"Your honor," said Mr. O'Reilly, "as you can see in your hands we have the personal diary of Errum Hassan, retrieved from her very personal belongings. The handwriting has been confirmed to be hers by Ms. Alayna Hassan. As we read the diary we can observe the world in Errum's eyes and everything becomes clear as day. For the first few pages it was about her "crush" ignoring her, the crush being Mr. Adam Phill himself," O'Reilly paused dramatically to glance at Adam who lowered his head and continued, "and little bits and pieces of how her sister Alayna saved her or how some guy at school named Devon bullied her. But in some time, we're introduced to a word we've never heard before. The red saint."

As soon as the word was pronounced, Errum reached under the table and abruptly got a hold of Brown's fingers. Clearly Errum was scared, her eyes gave away the facade she had held on to for so long. The word triggered her, and she was like a drowning kitten throwing her hands all around for something to grab on, or get a hold on. The voices inside Sean's head became loud and clear. It urged his to extend the hand she needed. To be the knight in shining armor, protecting her, rescuing her from all the cruelty in the world. Sean did not know where did the voice come from, but in no way could he deny it's existence. No way could he deny how his heart was melting at the sight of Errum trying to sink in her seat, her eyes full of fear, her hands tightly clutching his, and her face pale as snow. For the first time he felt, maybe, maybe, she wasn't the one who did this.
