Errum bit her nails and waited for the storm outside to pass. Storms were never good. It meant the arrival of someone. Arrival of The Red Saint.
Errum closed her eyes to drain out her thoughts. The sound of thunder and the raindrops dancing on the rooftop gave her a headache. She wished she could open her eyes right away and see Alayna walking towards her. What would she do then? She'd pull her into a big hug and not let go.
When she heard footsteps, she thought maybe God had heard her prayers. She slowly opened her eyes.
But instead of Alayna, it was her mother. That ugly woman smiled at Alayna and a shiver went down her spines.
"Hey honey, what is up?" She smiled again.
Errum looked intently at her.
"Um... where's Alay? She isn't home?"
Errum felt her blood boiling, her insides about to explode from the anger that gradually took control of her.
"I'll get my raincoat, and then I'll search for her. It isn't safe to be out in this rain,"
Errum couldn't believe her ears. Now Alayna?
She jumped and walked towards her mother, with her blood shot eyes never leaving her mother's. Saara looked transfixed in her spot, unable to move.
Errum went and punched her in the eye so hard that she tumbled.
"How..dare..you...take...MY ALAYNA'S NAME in....in..your..dirty..." She hissed.
Before Saara could get up she kicked her in the legs, and Saara lay flat on the floor.
"IF YOU HURT HER," she screamed, "I WILL KILL YOU! KILL YOU! I WILL KILL YOU!!"
Drops of tears streamed down her eyes as she grabbed her mother's throat and started to suffocate her. Saara lay there, trying hard to breathe, kicking her legs to free herself. But Errum's hold stayed firm. Years of drugs and the withdrawal, diseases, all together made Saara weak. All she could hear was Errum screaming, "KILL YOU!! KILL YOUUU!!!"
Suddenly Errum felt herself being pulled away. She tried to resist but Alayna's voice soothe her.
"Errum! Get yourself together! Get up! What are you doing!"
She slowly stood up, still crying.
Alayna helped Saara up and offered her a glass of water, gently rubbing her back for comfort.
"Do you want me to call an ambulance? Are you okay? Does it hurt? Can you breathe?"
Errum blood strated boiling again. This was how she consoled me. Saara didn't deserve Alayna's love.
She went over and spat at Saara, when Alayna gave her a tight slap.
Errum looked at Alayna with disbelief. Her Alayna slapped her?
"Errum, I've had enough! Go to your room RIGHT NOW!"
She still couldn't believe her ears. She slowly went to her room and closed the door so hard the windows trembled.
Errum sat by the window side, her head dizzy from all the crying. She touched her cheeks and fell a pang of pain there. But what hurt more was the scenario of Alayna slapping her playing in her head, again and again and again. She thought of all the time Alayna behaved badly with her because of that bitch. Everytime she took her mother's side. Every time she changed her sweetheart face into a raging demon's, because of that woman.
Errum felt the anger slowly finding it's way through her veins again. This has to stop.
***
Errum woke up as she felt something move inside her room. She parted her eyes a little but couldn't see anything in the dark.
God, I've been sleeping for hours, it's already dark?
Errum had no idea when she felt asleep near the window sill, but waking up she discovered herself on her bed. She smiled to herself. There was only one person who could've done this.
Sure enough, as she slowly sat up, Alayna came inside with a cup of coffee.
"How's my little bean doing?" She smiled.
Errum felt relieved at once. Alayna wasn't mad at her. That was enough.
"A little tired but fine."
"Here take your coffee, it'll help you feel better," She handed Errum the coffee and sat at the corner of the bed.
As Errum sipped in the coffee she looked over to Alayna who was now smoothing her braid. That was her style, she always braided her hair, and wore cute summer dresses, sometimes even wore flowers on her head. She was a walking Pinterest board.
"Errum, you probably know what I'm gonna say but we're gonna have to sort this out, okay? Today you've crossed a line. What happened to you, Errum? What demon possessed you? You..you tried to choke.." Alayna's words got caught in her throat and she lightly dabbed her eyes.
"I can't believe my sister did this. Errum you do realise that if I wasn't there what would've happened? Errum, look at me. Mom's the only family we have left. We don't know how our father was, maybe he had his own reasons for leaving. And mom could've, too. She had a thousand reasons to leave, even now. But she didn't, because she loves us,"
"Damn right she does," Errum muttered under her breath.
Errum sighed at Alayna's innocence. No matter how bad people were, or what horrible things they did, they were always forgivable, always acceptable to Alayna. She just didn't seem to know how to be furious or hate on someone terrible.
"Errum she has enough problems of her own. Please don't add more to it. Please. She's trying so hard to be a good mother. She's sick and going through so much right now. She needs her daughters. She's trying her best. I don't know why you are hell bound on hating her,"
"You don't know?" Errum looked up and said in a bitter voice.
Alayna ruefully sighed and after a significant pause, added,
"Yes, I know. But I'm trying to mend that, okay? Give me some time."
Alayna took her hands and gave them a little press. She looked her in the eyes and said,
"I'll make everything right. Have some faith on me, will you?"
Errum felt grateful for having Alayna in her life. The only person who loved her, and understood her. The only person with whom she shared everything, and the only person who listened. She was the kindest soul on the planet, the Jane to her Elizabeth.
A/N: Here's how it goes in the Hassan's house. How fucked up.
Did you like the sweet sister dynamic?
Cliché, I know. But we all need a little bit of support, don't we?
Also, I forgot to add Alayna's picture in the previous chapters so:
