Eyzah parked her car in front of the flower shop and bought some lilies. Those were Errum's favorite flowers, and she wanted to make her smile.
It's been six months since the infamous state Vs Alayna Hassan trial. After putting forward the evidence against Alayna that included the testimonial of the chemist she bought potassium from, her internet search results and traces of Saara's blood found in her coat the court had issued a life sentence to Alayna Hassan six months ago, Errum was found mentally unfit and therefore put in psychiatric facilities untill she got clearance from the doctors to be released. Thankfully the jury found her not guilty and a vessel of manipulation by Alayna.
Eyzah started her car and cranked up the radio. It was a fairly good weather, and it would be nice to surprise Errum on her birthday. She and Jake had been visiting Errum every now and then, since Errum barely had any family left.
She pulled over in front of the facility and confirmed her identity at the reception. As she waited outside in the yard for Errum, she checked her phone for new messages.
"Yeo, apologize to Errum on my behalf, will you? I have this new case I need to work on. And also wish her a happy bday, and tell her I'll bring her gift when I come visit next Thursday. xoxo
P.S: Those hugs were for Errum, so don't start daydreaming.
I didn't say who the kisses were for though- ;)
~JH."
Eyzah smiled and looked up, and there she was, in all smiles, Errum.
She took a seat in front of Eyzah, her head covered in a headscarf.
"Hey! Where Jake?"
"I'm so sorry, he couldn't make it, a case came up."
Errum's shoulders slumped.
"Hey, don't be sad. He'll see you next Thursday, with your present. And of course, Happy Birthday, Errum! Here, these are for you."
"Thanks!" Errum flashed a huge smile.
She smelled the flowers and slowly ram her fingers over them. Eyzah loved when she did that, she was so passionate about lilies, it always made Eyzah smile.
"So.. how're you holding up?"
"Good. New..se-ses-"
"Session?"
"Yes. Those is good. I like Hannah. Hannah is my friend."
Errum's Aphasia was getting better gradually after her speech sessions. She also had put on some weight and didn't look as pale as before.
"That's so good to hear! I'm sure your friends awesome. By the way are you being treated well here? If you face any discomfort, I'm here, you know that, right?"
Errum nodded and again got distracted with the flowers. Eyzah noticed the hijab, headscarf.
"We're you praying namaz, Errum?"
She smiled and nodded.
"God...Allah saved me."
The beauty and admiration with which Errum said Allah made Eyzah genuinely happy. It was so good to see her finding peace, faith and meaning in life.
"Yes, Errum. Allah saved you and took you from a bad life and gave you a great one. It all happens for good."
"Where..." She mouthed Alayna, as if pronouncing that devil's name would get her cursed.
"She's in prison. Don't think about her, okay, Errum? She was a bad person, and she's gone now. That was a nightmare, and it had passed. It's all okay now."
"I..sorry mum," Errum whispered, and her eyes welled up with tears.
"Oh dear, I know I know. It's okay, Errum. It wasn't your fault, you didn't know. Here, take a tissue. Your mum loved you, and I'm sure she has forgiven you. When you meet her in the afterlife, you'll see how happily she'll take you in."
That seemed to give a little consolation to Errum, and she nodded, looking down.
The visiting hours were over. It was time to go.
"Errum, I'll try to tag along with Jake this Thursday, if I can. Do you want me to bring you anything?"
She gave it a thought and replied, "Blue plushie."
"You want a blue plushie?" Eyzah chuckled, "done. I'll see you then?"
They both got up and Eyzah hugged Errum.
"You've made it, Errum. You've made it."
A/N: Annndddd we're officially doneee!!
I'm feeling sort of sad because I won't be writing these characters anymore. But I guess our whole lives is an act of letting go. :/
Now, opinion time. Anything, anything about the story, the plot, the characters? I appreciate constructive criticism.
Thank you to all of you stuck around till the end and voted. Your support means the world to me!
It took me 4 months and 16 days to complete this one but I'm glad to be able to finish this one. Finally I can stop searching sketchy stuffs on my computer before the NSA shows up 💀
