Everything stayed right, too, for the first two weeks at least. Dean and Cas got a few homophobic lines thrown at them, but nothing they couldn't have handled, and even though Cas caught Z&A giving Dean strange looks every once in a while, and even spoke to Dean about it, Dean kept clinging to the fact that he was out and he'd stay out, no matter what Z&A were planning. And he kept clinging to the idea that whatever Z&A were planning, if it involved Cas, they would risk their lives with their own plan.

Dean had also prepared to get them each by their own to make them pay for beating Cas up a couple of weeks earlier, as a late revenge act, but Charlie had found him getting ready and talked him out of it – even though she supported the idea of a protective boyfriend, she didn't want Dean to do something stupid.

She made it clear that being out didn't just mean out of the business – as Cas had told her, but neither of them knew exactly what Dean had meant – but also stay away from everything that had to do with it. Aka Z&A.

No, things were going pretty well. It was a cold afternoon in the middle of December and Cas stood by the side of the Impala, clasping his hands together to ward off the cold. It was the last day of school, winter break was starting from tomorrow, but instead of running out like most kids did, Dean and Sam were taking their time, each individually.

Stupid Winchesters. Couldn't they hurry up? He was freezing and standing pathetically alone-

"Hey, Castiel."

Cas flinched; not because he didn't like the voice, but because he was so flashed to hear it. It wasn't unfamiliar, but it had become so rare.

"Balthazar?"

"Yeah, that would be me." Balthazar cracked a smile, coming to a stop next to Cas. "Been a few weeks, huh?"

"Oh, yes, much too long," Cas started rambling immediately. "I'm so glad to see you, you don't understand how much your company grows on people with time-"

"A'right, mate, you don't have to exaggerate now. Just breathe." Balthazar laughed, putting a hand on the deck of the Impala. A gesture Cas knew Dean didn't approve from some random stranger or someone he didn't like, but luckily Balthazar was neither to Dean. Although... Dean had been kinda offensive to Cas' friend before. Now, he hoped Dean wouldn't come too soon.

"How 'ya been?"

"I've been good, really," Cas said, and then sighed. He was just so relieved to talk to Balthazar. Ever since Cas had "chosen" Dean over him for the ride to school, the boy hadn't talked to him, and it actually had been the only thing bothering Cas these days – he was scared to have lost his longest friend. "What about you?"

"Well, life's boring, school's stressful, love is inactive, the typical week, you know. Got nothing special going on for me. Unlike you."

When Cas squinted in confusion, Balthazar raised his eyebrows. Only then Cas realized what Balthazar was getting at, but his friend already spoke. "I reckon you are with your long living crush now, finally?"

"If you are talking about Dean Winchester, then yes, I am with Dean. And I am really happy with him." Cas' words may sound nonchalant, but Balthazar didn't miss the warning laying underneath. He wasn't to say anything bad against it, or Cas would be pissed.

"Yeah, good for you. Anyway, that's what I was meaning to ask you, after all. Are you gonna drive with the Winchester every day from now on? Because mate, I'll drive you if you want, but I gotta know beforehand. I have other pals that ask me to drive them, as well."

Cas shrugged. "Then take them in. Do not depend it on me."

"I know you don't like them. Or generally when someone else is around. But you'll have to make your decision, Castiel."
